I know it is asked a lot, but I am looking for somewhere for my wife, me and our 2 1/4 year old daughter. She wants to fly, but hasn't yet. I don't mind driving but we would like 20 - 25 degrees and sun if poss, with sand, sea and something for the tot.
Not keen on Lanzareef as I went years back and it has tarnished my opinion. Otherwise, what do you think?

We have exactly the same quandary. We're thinking of Cyprus if it helps based on temps and some friends recommendations - never been there, but my father did say it was nice in the 50s when he wasn't been shot at by terrorists biggrin

Southern France? I lived there during the rugby season and it was generally quite warm and sunny in September / October (Toulon & Perpignan areas).

Algarve, out here at the moment, temp still in the mid 20's, we have been bringing our kids here since they were babes in arms, now 22 & 19 and they still often come with us

Would suggest a villa close to the beach and a few nice places to eat that you and OH could walk to

Cyprus will still be early to mid 30's in sept. What about the Balerics - they should be a nice mid to late 20's and there are some cheap deals in sept too.

Agree - we went to Pollensa in Majorca on 9 Sep last year and had a lovely time with our 9 month old daughter. Sea was still warm, temps were mid twenties and mostly sunny. We got a cheap deal through Thomson for a hotel 5 mins from the beach which had a good pool too. Best of all, there were few kids as they'd all gone back to school so it was just the sort of restful atmosphere we were after.

Mallorca all day every day. We're booked for our third trip there on the 18th staying in Cala D'Or which offers the cheapest in terms of amenities and has the biggest selection of coves and beaches (around 6-7). You'll want for nothing on the island which has a safari park, the beautiful Valdemossa and the Soller railway from Palma to Soller.

Beach-wise, I recommend Colonie St Jordi which has a long beach and shallow and safe water in the cove.

The beaches in Southern Spain will offer you sun but the beaches tend to be a bit naff quality sand unless you go up north around Denia/Javea on the Costa Blanca (going there in October).

Should also add that flight times to Mallorca are short (often under 2 hours) but that is partly offset by the vastness of Palma Airport if you land a long way from the door.

Malta is lovely in September/October. Also very nice for small children, warm sea, friendly locals plus lots to do also for adults as well as children.

OK, thanks so far. Looking at Mallorca
We think either Port Soller ( expensive it seems, anyone any tips? ) or Cala D'Or.
Like the look of owner apartments away from the crowds.

Port Soller is on the mountain side of the island and to a large degree the posher side of the island. I have been to Cala D'Or 3 times now and it is without doubt the best location. It has numerous sheltered small coved beaches, all easily accessible. In addition, while Cala d'Or is a bit resorty, it has the enormous benefit of cheap meals especially for kids (about 2 Euros for spag carbonara). Finally, you can use it as a base to drive anywhere on the island as it's not huge by any means.
There are two sides to Cala d'Or - the marina side and Cala Egos and the northern Cala d'Or side.
Southwards you have Cala Santanyi and further down the very recommended Colonie St Jordi. If you go north you have the safari park and over on the western mountain side you have the fantastically picturesque town of Valdemossa. I also recommend Arta and that area. The thing about Majorca is there are so many places to go.

The Soller railway runs from Palma up to Soller then bus to Port Soller and is well worth a day out.
