I'm flying to Cincinnati, Ohio on Tuesday for a wedding. I booked my flight with KLM back in June.

The first leg of my journey is Heathrow to Detroit, and then Detroit to Cinci.

I was then meant to be flying back Cinci to Detroit, and then Detroit to Heathrow.

I booked with KLM but I'm flying with their "partner" airline, Delta.

This afternoon I got an email from Delta confirming my flight into the States, but my flight OUT of the USA was changed so that I'm now flying Cinci to Minneapolis and then Minne to Heathrow, at very different times to the ones I'd booked (I was going to be in London by 8am the following Tuesday, I'm now not going to be back until close to 1pm).

When I logged into KLM just now it states that the Cinci > Detroit flight I booked has been cancelled, and now lists the Minneapolis one.

However it's now also saying that my ticket is £1,196.72! £588.00 for the fare and £608.72 for taxes!

I paid for the bloody thing back in June and I paid £598.36, which consisted of £294.00 for the fare and £304.36 for taxes, fees and charges.

I've just tried to phone KLM to get an explanation but was told there was a queue longer than 10 minutes and then the machine hung up on me. The only number my Delta ticket will give me is an American one (so far my Delta ticket is showing me the original £598 charge, thankfully).

When I get through to them tomorrow, what are my rights? I'm assuming they can't just spontaneously charge my card again without my permission? I'll put up with the flight changes but surely they can't double the cost of my flight because THEY have cancelled the one I wanted and booked me onto something else? I've checked my bank balance and nothing's been taken out, but I'm worried I'm going to check it tomorrow night and find myself suddenly £500 short!

It'll be fine - they won't charge you any extra.

They could have simply cancelled the ticket and refunded you the original cost - so they've done you a favour rearranging the return flight.
