It's my wife's 40th in February & I'm looking to rent a large country house around the Cotswolds / South Shropshire areas that sleeps around 10 - 12 people for a long weekend for a bit of a surprise party.

Main requirements are:

  • Near(ish) to a pub
  • Decent sized grounds
  • Near nice countryside for walking
  • Georgian / Edwardian style (by that, I mean it needs to have "the look")
  • Ideally, an inside pool / recreation room
Budget is pretty flexible.

Does anyone have any recommendations?!

Before I pack up for the day I thought I would help you out a bit...

I don't really know a company (letting agent) in that area that caters for Cotswold properties but having a quick look on Holidaylettings, ownersdirect and holiday-rentals.co.uk came up with the following:

http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/search_advanced.asp?...

Landmark Trust will tick most of the boxes except the pool bit.

My wife's work colleague had this place for a weekend for his 40th earlier this year:

http://www.uniquehomestays.com/unique/details.asp?...

Sarsden Manor. Catering onsite can be arranged and I think he took all his guests to le manior for dinner on the Sat night - I understand it wasn't _that_ far away.

He heavily recommends it.

Might tick some of your boxes?

Thanks for the suggestions, chaps.

Tomw2000 - that is just the kind of place I'm looking for. Will have a browse round the website.

Cheers

I shall be using that website for my next stay in the UK!
