Driving to Amsterdam
Discussion
Hi all,
Next week, myself and my other half are going to Amsterdam, and im taking the TT-RS rather than the plane so i can have a bit of a play in Europe and enjoy the 'better' European roads.
Bit of a random question for those that have been to Amsterdam before.....
Can you park your car in the street, or do they have the english equivalent of double yellow lines?
My hotel is charging a fortune to use their car park, and i might just stick it on the curb / roadside instead, or in a cheap pay and display car park, if there is such a thing? - Although i prefer my motor to be as safe as possible.
Any feedback very welcome indeed!
Thanks
Paul

You don't park in Amsterdam, there are about 7 spaces in the whole centre, and they are usually full, and next to the nasty bits of town. It's one of the most car unfriendly towns I've ever been to, which didn't stop me driving across all the bridges in the centre with the Van Der Valk theme blaring out of the stereo. Leave it at the hotel and take the train/bus/bicycle.
I drove to the Dam last Autumn for a few days.
Expect traffic jams in Holland.
It's very densely populated.
Parking in the City's always expensive, so I too would advise using the hotel car park.
I parked in the underground carpark near the central station, and it was VERY expensive for a couple of days.
It's cheaper to park at Schipol and take the train to Centraal.
Oh, watch out for bikes and trams too!

Thanks guys for the replies!
Sounds like im learning from my mistakes, i will reserve the hotel car park then as this sounds as though if i dont i will regret it. Dont fancy leaving my car elsewhere a few miles away, its an expensive motor and i dont fancy 'hoping' its ok haha!
Thanks all
