Thinking of taking a car around Romania next summer, any views, comments, warnings?

Have you seen the roads there before?

A decade or so since I was last there but, unless it has changed a lot, they weren't the best by a long stretch. And there were a surprising number of horse drawn vehicles, which made things even more interesting.

I would also take an extended touring spares kit too..

Roads are not great no, not much highway, ok no highway at all. Nice people and really nice food, i might be subjective tho, as im Romanian lol. Any specific questions, please ask.

I'd agree with that - met some great people and had a great time when I was there. Would like to go back at some point.

Went this summer and loved it. Stayed in Sibiu then drove the Transfargasan pass to Arefu and stayed there too. Really cheap, great food and great weather. Constantas on the coast is quite nice too. Camping was great if you're considering it. Stayed in a log cabin for 20 euro a night too.

The best I saw was an old woman pulling a dog cart with a gas canister in it. And her husband (I assume) sat on top smoking a fag hehe

Thanks for the responses, I know the roads aren't great but it is a country I have long wanted to visit - many years ago (40) I worked in Czechoslovakia and I have it in my mind that it will be similar to that. Any more suggestions of places to see/visit would be v welcome as would any cautionary tales.

Places to see, you need to go to Brasov if you like the mountains, the Peles Castle in Sinaia is worth seeing. Would also recommend the churches in Moldova.
