Never been on a cruise before, but thinking of trying a short one to see if we like it.

Been looking on a few websites to get ideas of prices but can't find anything mentioned

Food is inclusive on all cruises, eating is part of the whole cruise experience. Most bigger ships have some speciality restaurants which do charge a nominal fee and you need to book. Generally you can stuff yourselves until you explode.

Drinks are inclusive on some of the high end lines, Silversea, Seabourn etc. Most others charge and this is one of their biggest revenue streams. You may get a free glass of wine with meals or a free glass of plonk at the welcome party, but that's about it!

Shore excursions/tours are nearly always chargeable, another big revenue stream.

Most cruise lines add a service charge/auto gratuity/tip to you bill, this pays the room stewards/bar staff/waiters etc who are usually on very minimum wage, check with the cruise line for details. Can be $30 a day and 15% on drinks etc.

Most activities, Entertainment etc is free.

Hope that helps!

I echo above. On the less exclusive cruises, the main food/drink is just an all you want buffet. There usually always some sort of food available. You could if you wanted to, not spend a penny on board but that would be silly. Alcohol is a reasonable UK rate.

Obviously excursions ect will cost you money.
