The gf and I are planning to get away for a week-10 days early/mid Jan ('12) however I am concerned regarding flights after the debacle last year of snow related cancellations.

What comeback does one have if the flight is cancelled owing to snow? Case of tough luck or it is the airline's responsibility to offer you another date?

Unfortunately with both of us are on strict work rotas and it is very difficult to get time off simultaneously so we're being a bit anal about this.

As an aside, can anyone suggest anywhere interesting to visit in Jan? We aren't really into sitting around by the pool and like to do some exploring (plus I'm a photography geek).

Last summer we had shortlisted either Mexico, Peru or India but instead drove around Europe (France, Italy and Switzerland) for a couple of weeks in the E30.

Suggestions welcome smile

..and, if you're not going on a package holiday, make sure it covers independantly made arrangements. Otherwise you could end up paying for a hotel that you can't get to.
