New years eve suggestions

Help fellow PH`ers help i know i have left it a bit late but i`m looking for suggestions/ideas for somewhere to go or something to do with my 13 year old son for New years eve. I dont want to stay in house yet another boring year, at first i was thinking of going away/abroad for the christmas period or New years eve for something different until i found out what extortionate prices the travel agents are charging, i dont mind spending up to a certain amount to go or do something but not into thousands for just the 2 of us, so it looks like the uk which i dont mind at all, we dont want to go to our local as its not the best there, but would like something/somewhere different with a party atmosphere possibly in the south west or further a field if necessary.
Any sensible suggestions please
