Week days or weekends in New York?

Planning a trip to NY next year for a week, but when's the best time to be travelling?

Option 1: Saturday to Saturday. Miss out on Saturday night fun, and rise very early on Sunday...

Option 2: Wednesday to Wednesday. Miss out a day during the week when tourist attractions and shops may be quieter, but enjoying the weekend atmosphere and goings on.

Is there much difference between the two? Does New York (both within and outside Manhattan) change a lot over the weekend, or is it a 24/7 city?

Shouldn't make much difference. More people out on Friday & Saturday night like anywhere else.

24/7 city, though of course lots of people out doing stuff at the weekend like any big city. I'd be inclined to do weds-weds as flights will be cheaper, and the airports & flights should be less busy.
