Poland or surrounding areas - help needed...

Really not sure where else to post this, so thought I'd start here!

My mother found her fathers passport and tried researching his place of birth with intentions of visiting, but she can't (nor can I) find this place on Google. On the passport it reads "Skurgire". The 'i' may well be another letter (not the best writing!).
This place could be in Poland itself, or even part of Prussia. He was born in December 1919 so it was around the time the borders would've been changing around this time with the war which is making this search a little harder.

Does anyone have any ideas of where this could be?

Are you able to uplaod a scan of the written text. Polish has various non standard letters its alphabet and it may make more sense when the origianl text is seen rather than your own interpretation.

I speak Polish fluently but that name does not look / sound like a Polish sounding name. Like I said earlier, some of the letters that you have transcribed might be special Polish letters, and hence why your translation is not being recognised. I'll have a look for you if you can post up a scan of the written text.
