Just Returned from Paradise (Thailand/Koh Phayam)
Discussion
Flew to Bangkok on the 29th to meet up with the Mrs' son, daughter in law and grandson. stayed on the 38th floor of an amazing apartment block in down town Bangkok. Courtesy boat to centre of town took 15 minutes. Spent New Years Eve/Day there....Incredible.
New Years Eve

River

Then flew to Surat Thani hopped on a mini bus for a 3 hr ride to Ranong (I say 3 hrs....it actually took 13 hours due to some pretty torrential rain and flash flooding but that added to the adventure I suppose!)
After a night at a guest house in Ranong we got a 2 hour boat ride to the island of Koh Phayam Well, all I can say is....I really didnt think these places still existed. The island didnt have any cars so we hired a couple of scooters and headed off to the NW corner of the island to find a beach hut for £8 a night and a deserted beach. I mean deserted!!! We had another beach close by that was even more secluded and virtually had that to ourselves aswell! not a single Brit on the island, a few Dutch, Germans and Scandinavians, no idiots in Man Utd shirts. One great bar which was incredible on our last night as they held a full moon party there. weather was 34 degrees everyday, slight breeze and very little humidity for Thailand.
Koh Phayam Town

First nights Sunset

The Mrs and her Grandson

The 'Bungalow'

The Beach

The 'Other' Beach

The 'Bar'...made of driftwood and run by Thai Rastas!

After 8 days there is was back to down town Bangkok again for two days in a 5 star apartment building. Eating street food and visiting the local markets was great.
Had to post this up although I had to think hard about revealing the island's name as I dont think it'll be quiet like this is 15 years time.

Brilliant!
To late for me now as I'm already booked but out of curiosity for perhaps a 2nd visit at some point...
How did you get to find out about that place?
Where do you book one of those beach huts in advance of travelling to Thailand?
My Mrs' son & daughter in law are 'permanent' travellers, her grandson was born in Bolivia and they have been living in Chaing Mai for the last year. They know the best places to go. Saying that, they had to rely on the advice from some French guys that had been to the island to know exactly which part of the island to head towards. As far as booking huts.....you really dont need to, we turned up 'on spec' and had no trouble finding a place. Infact, considering this is high season it was VERY quiet on the island and we visited 3 or 4 different hut resorts before choosing the right one at the right price. To late for me now as I'm already booked but out of curiosity for perhaps a 2nd visit at some point...
