Going to Europe on Monday and Inter-railing it from North to south (ish). Taking in Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, Zurich, Milan and Nice.

Does anyone know of a website which can simplify the finding the correct train platform and train bit etc?

I.e. If we want to leave Amsterdam central for brussels central at about 10am is their a website we can use which will say go to platform 3 at 10:18 and get on train number TR1234 for example?

Belgium train time tables. It won't always tell you the platform but it will tell you the train number whch you can find on the main board in the station.

I've found that the platform a train arrive/leaves at is often selected only minutes before it arrives.

I presume you'll be getting into Brussels Midi (Zuid) which has 20+ platforms so a change can also mean a long walk sometimes.

Edit to add: in Brussels Midi there is a Euro-train (or whatever it's called) right next to the Eurostar terminal where you will be able to get any info you need.

That's part of the fun of inter-railing - being on the wrong platform, or wrong train. Also make sure you are in the right part of the train - I was in Denmark in the eighties heading to Sweden (or so I hoped) when someone asked my destination - the back of the train where I was sitting was about to be split from the front and been taken to Warsaw (& that was when the Iron Curtain existed...), I just managed to get to the front in time.

Some of the best holidays I have had were when I had an Inter Rail ticket; some of the most interesting people too (Swedish Elisabeth where are you now? smile ), had a machete pulled on me by a drunk, exchanged cash on the black in eastern Europe. Over a few years I travelled from Finland to the edge of the Sahara, Czechoslovakia and Berlin (have an East German passport stamp) and most points in between

Enjoy your travels!

bahn.de is probably the best site for any train journey in Europe. Also book sleepers in advance to secure a bed, although this time of year should be ok.
