My wife and I have decided to go skiing at the beginning of March, We're both decent skiiers (been going since 1996) able to to tackle pretty much whatever, but want decent reds for cruising and mountain huts for coffee and lunch. Apre ski is not important. We've agreed to go to Austria but cannot decide between Saalbach & Kitzbuhel. We have been to Saalbach once before but not Kitzbuhel. As I see it they have comparable ski areas, snow conditions are little different, both have decent lifts, we'd fly to the same airport and we have found similar package deals in each. So - to those of you have been to both - where would you go?

You can do both on the same pass (All Star pass)-bus required though. maser_spyder is our resident Kitz expert, he's some sort of globe trotting, millionaire play boy as far as I can tell and is now out in Kitzbuhel for the rest of the season. wink

I'd expect Saalbach to be the more expensive option slighlty, it's bene years since I was in Kitz but will be going in just under 3 weeks. I don't think you can go wrong in either but both are pretty high on Apres-although you can take it or leave it. Saalbach has the ski circus, Kitzbuhel has the safari. I've been to Saalbach several times even as late as May and always had good conditions.

I think both will satisfy your requirement and would perhaps let price decide if it matters. A step up in challenge, and maybe a little in cost over Saalbach I'd suggest Isghl.
