I love the isle of man. I have spent every TT and GP there since 1997. However, the prices have become stupid. £800 for a return ferry for a car and bike trailer. Unfortunately, I won't be going this year. frown

Cost me about £190 two years ago when I went in my R32. Was just before the IOM TT.

£800 with a trailer is a joke though. Not night ferries you can take to reduce the cost?

The whole point is to watch the GP.

if they are jacking up the prices around TT races its well out of order
but about right these days, a similar scam operates at cinemas at weekends ,up go the prices
hardly a fair comparison i agree , its stating the obvious but to me its daylight robbery or greed
if you like

I am 40 years old with a wife and 2 children. My point is the ferry prices are a piss take.

That's ok. Makes me cross though as there's no justification for the price hike. This has been our annual holiday for the past 15 years and now we cannot justify it.

frown If you don't mind not taking the bike it might be worth checking flight prices?

It's not much better off season. My parents looked at having a family holiday there a couple of years ago. Counted it out on cost of getting over there, would have been 3 separate cars due to other family members joining/arriving at different times

It's a shame as I'd love to experience the Mountain Road, bur can travel to Europe for the same amount.

Supply and demand, simple economics, they will fill the ferries during the TT period, which probably subsidies the slack periods during the rest of the year.
Ain't saying its right, but its how companies operate, especially when they have a monopoly.

Happens in all industries, as the operator here is a monopoly it is just more profound.

Also you have booked rather late, if you've been going for 15 years? Why have you not booked the ferry a year ahead like most other people do?

The ferry company is also highly regulated by the IoM government, and they agree that artificially high prices are needed during the TT to sustain the ferry at other times of year.

When we are going over in October for a weekend it is only costing £290 (2 people).
With that including ferry and 2 nights accommodation at the Mount Murray.
