The Wife and I are off to London in a couple of hours, we're there until Sat night. Anyway, because she is working, I have the whole of tomorrow to myself. So, what bloke pleasing (steady!) activities would you suggest? We are staying in spitting distance of the British Museum, so I'll probably have a look round there. But what else? Anything car themed in London? thought I might try and find the Royal Arcade to look at the watches too.

Left field suggestion, when that happened to me, thought about all the options, had already done a lot of touristy stuff over the years.

Ended up in public gallery Court 3 at the Old Bailey, murder trial.

Quite amusing, though occasionally irritating when public and press asked to leave whilst some legal minutiae discussed, which would have been more interesting than the defence line of "It woz the voices in me 'ead wot made me do it guvnor." however amusing that may have been. Much laughter in court when that came out.

10 out of 10 for originality. Knowing my luck, I'd get comfy with my pop corn in the public gallery and it would turn out to be some depressing molestation case or something. Ruin the trip that would.

British Museum walk down to river and past Millbank to Houses of Parliament.
Up Horse Guards and past Downing Street up to Trafalgar Sq, then have a wonder around the National Gallery. It's free and you'll be amazed at how many old masters you'll see and recognise.

Hamleys - top floor, spend your time playing with the Scalextric set (assuming it's still there).

Science Museum had a "What F1 has given the world" type display a while back - may not be there anymore but still worth a visit.

I can also loose myself for a long while in and around Covent Garden.

Another vote for the National Gallery, where else can you see billions of pounds worth of well-known paintings for free?

I personally wouldn't bother, there are better ways to spend £18

Thirded. The Imperial War Museum is superb. It's also Bedlam.

I fear it would be wasted on me. I'm a bit Neanderthal when it comes to art. I still think Jack Vetrianno prints are a stylish way to decorate your house!

Might be a good time to merge these threads, see post 3. Do you need a haircut at the moment?

On the face of it, no, but having read that thread I do think it could benefit from a bit of a trim.

Shame it is the wrong time of year. When faced with a similar situation a few years ago I bought a paperback and sat on a bench and people watched. Plenty of places to do this from whilst indoors too

Again maybe too cultural smile but there is nothing quite like getting lost in the V&A. Get off the tube at South Ken, walk to the V&A. On your way back head to the Anglesea Arms pub for a couple of pints and The Economist via the Lambo and Ferrari dealership. Lovely selfish pottering ME-TIME!
