extort room upgrade using tripadvisor
Discussion
i know there was a program on a bit back about tripadvisor causing issues for hoteliers and b&b's but yesterday was told that people have started trying to extort upgrades out of the hotels by threatening to slate them on tripadvisor etc surly people cant be this devious and manipulative over a bloody hotel room !
anyone willing to admit to using TA to get something out of a hotel ?
anyone willing to admit to using TA to get something out of a hotel ?
suppose but i must admit there should be some standards to the reviews
but people do have different criteria of what they want or like i suppose ive been sick of reading 5 star reviews for hotels that get them because they do karaoke and have a roast every night and do a full english

Does anybody really take notice of the reviews though? I know for me, whether it's hotels, hifi, cars etc. it goes a bit like this.
Item I like gets good reviews - great I was right, lets book/purchase
Item I like gets bad reviews - what a bunch of miserable tossers, always find something to moan about, lets book/purchase
As for using it as a threat to hotels etc that's just despicable and one of the reasons the internet has been spoiled by letting Joe Public use it.

Yes, and I've never been let down before by it.Item I like gets good reviews - great I was right, lets book/purchase

So long as you stay in hotels with over 100 ratings and a rating of 85%+ you should be ok. Read the reviews, when the bad reviews are about things like sunburn or the bumps on the ride from the airport, you know you're onto a winner hotel.

I know someone who runs a hotel and TripAdvisor will look at bad reviews on request and remove them if they feel they are malicious. Same with planted positive reviews too.oyster said:

This is excellent advice. Use it with common sense and open eyes and it's pretty handy. I always think the really bad stuff will stand out and the really good stuff will too. Law of averages plays out. So long as you stay in hotels with over 100 ratings and a rating of 85%+ you should be ok. If a customer tried that with me though I'd tell to f
k off, make a note of the time and name and then report them to TA if anything appears to that effect. we always take reviews with pinch of salt and try to read through the reviewer to try get a better picture
i loved this one though its second highest in salou spain 4 out of 5 856 reviews!
one described it as a bit small !!

his has got to be a must for everyone young or old.The hotel is a cracker the food was top. I have been to spain 6 times & a few other places but the food in this hotel was right up my street (english breakfast) was out of this world for being in spain it was just like back at home.it has 2 swimming pools & plenty of sun beds. The rooms are spot on.CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK & I WILL RETURN WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO
The food was the best part. Most of the reviews did not really mention what the hotel had to offer on food. The food was varied per sitting and this included fish, chops, steak, pork, local dishes, salads, pizza, chips, rice etc. Better still they had a calvery each evening, which included yorkshire puds. You could also grab a bottle of wine to add with your meal.
The bar was great and all the local drinks were included. They evan had a small range of cocktails to choose from as well as tea and coffee. However the tea and coffee is not a patch on home.
loved this review though !!!
What a dump. The first room stank of smoke, which was no mean feat when it is a non-smoking hotel. The sink was in the same the room as the beds and the bath was the length of two pieces of hand luggage.
The second room looked out onto a rooftop, which had a broken chair on it and was littered with paper drinks cups. Some broken planters with dying plants in them formed a barrier to the end of the rooftop and the one story drop. And it is just as well as on the second night some guests got onto the rooftop, just outside our window and started urinating against our bedroom wall. They then climbed back through an unlocked window back into the corridor. It will only be a matter of time before some drunken guest, and drinking is all there is to do there, falls off the roof.
The ‘sun terrace’ was manned by a barman for 10 minutes in every 30, so either get plenty of plastic glasses worth or make it last. A line of sun cream defined the maximum fill level of the Jacuzzis. But the worst issue were the flies. I can only image what we must have looked like constantly swinging papers, books and arms at various parts of our anatomy in a vain attempt to stop the flies crawling all over us. And you are only allowed to sunbath after 9am. I’ll explain the logic behind this later.
The bar stank of stagnant water, and yes mosquitoes bit guests. In fact I think they were the only things there that ate well.
The food was at best tepid but was always cold by the time we sat down an example being that one morning the hash browns were cold in the middle at 8am and we were the first people in the restaurant. One day we had sausages as an option for every meal. They may not have been the same sausages but they were all cooked to exactly the same colour. You can make up your own mind. The only talent the cooks (the term chefs is unfair to those who do care about basic food hygiene) had was to be able to re-use last nights food on the next day’s lunch buffet by giving it another name and slapping some sauce on it. The daily entertainment in the restaurant was hide and search. It was our goal to find: a clean table, a teaspoon and a pepper pot.
The entertainment (not the same as entertaining) was so loud that we could participate in every ‘Working Man’s Club’ activity from our room, doing exceptionally well in every quiz. Definitely not designed by Mensa. The compares, as there were two, just droned on in celebration of their own voices trying in vain desperation to involve the audience in their desperately uninteresting lives and humour whilst playing on their computer randomly playing sound bites over the top of what each other were saying.
You are only allowed 2 drinks at a time from the bar where the glasses are slightly larger than test tubes. You won’t get any ice in your drinks until it has melted to size that will fit in the glass. This won’t be a problem if you didn’t have to queue in a long line, often 15 people long, to get your allotted drinks, often half full.
This hotel is designed to maximise profit by cramming as many people into the hotel as possible. The goal is to get as drunk as possible on a night, the entertainment finishing at 12.30am and the unsupervised screaming kids running up and down the corridors slamming doors finishing about 3.30am and then get up and have a full English breakfast. The hotel doesn't allow to sunbath when the sun is out because they don't believe anyone will be awake enough until 9am. The goal then is to start drinking for the night so when you do eat anything you’re never quite sure if it the alcohol or the food that is making you throw up. And because you are so drunk the waiting doesn’t seem too long at the bar and you don’t object to all clapping with your hands above your head for the ‘star attraction’ that is already 5minutes late on stage. One of the night’s entertainments was Karaoke. This isn’t the hotel providing entertainment it is the guests.
So if you want to spend your time getting drunk, leave your children to run riot and do whatever they like, run a real risk of contracting food poisoning, listen to dated, egotistical inept BTEC drama dropouts shouting into a microphone and sun bath only when the hotel allows you to. The Villa Marina Club is the place for you. Oh yeah, it’s nowhere near the marina or the beach.
A great place to film a Shameless holiday special where you won’t have to pay actors to be extras.
