Just make sure you take plenty of money with you. That notwithstanding.....
Get yourself over to Temple Bar and find a nice seat in Kehoe's and have the best pint of Guinness on the planet. Apart from that (in your time scale) not alot else really.

Yes. It is.Cheers
Was there almost 4 years ago and a round of 8 drinks in a pub saw almost no change from a 50euro note.
Mate who was with me came out of the newsagent looking very pale after buying a pack of fags.
I honestly reckon it's the most expensive European city I've ever been in.

(It's my hometown by the way, so I'm not just having a go). Cheers
Well the last time we went was for a Pearl Jam concert at The Point (and to visit the relatives, errr....briefly). The Point is not far out of town (maybe a mile to a mile and a half if that). We had to catch a taxi after the concert (my cousin dropped us off before) as my wife was still on crutches after breaking her leg (and I didn't want to bother the relatives). It cost €40!!!!! to get back to the hotel in the centre of town. A couple of halves of 'the black stuff' and a couple of burger meals (chips etc); €50. This was a couple or three years back, so it may have changed, since they are skint and desperate for tourist dollars etc.
But then again....someone told us that Rome was expensive and we didn't find it so........

Even more expensive.Cheers
My in-laws are from Limerick and that is eye-wateringly expensive, it's not specific things that are more expensive, it's just everything!
We dropped e50 on two soups and a sandwich plus coke, and I'm not talking the marching power variety either!
it is expensive prob a bit more than london prices I would say.
yes do the guiness factory tour - a must,
tour of the city on a bus is actually pretty good....
and temple bar - find a corner and enjoy the music and the banter and it is the best guiness ever.
avoid ballymunn.... and oddly I found the taxis were cheaper than the buses (and ALOT safer- trust me. Ever seen the film The gauntlet?????)
enjoy

Ahhhh Dublin
I'm in Belfast so go there when I can.
Go for afternoon tea in the Merrion. Or better yet, stay there! Their cellar restaurant is lovely too, and not (quite) as pricey as their Michelin starred restaurant. Wonderful Georgian architecture and still the best staff I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.
McDaid's pub (very authentic!), and the one directly opposite. They're pretty much outside the Westbury.
Go for a walk around St Stephen's Green, if the weather isn't horrible. To be honest, that area is the nicest. There are too many great restaurants to mention there, you'd do well to find a bad one.
Regarding money. Yeah, it's pretty dear. 6 euro a pint and 20 marlboro lights are around 9 euro. But thinking about it, I was paying close enough to that in New York last November, and cigarettes notwithstanding, more again in Spain.

We just got back from Rome 2 weeks ago. A medium (400ml) Peroni/Hart was between E6 and E9, a glass/can of Coke, was between E4 and E6, and we mostly ate at smaller restaurants. I thought it was very expensive compared to London, but as mentioned above, both countries are in the s
t... It usually cost around E50-E60 for 1 main meal (Pizza, Meatballs etc) and 1 drink for us.ETA It was an Irish pub that was cheapest in Rome, a place called The Abbey Theatre, managed to get a Hart and a Coke (My missus is T-total) for E10 I think.

You're right I guess.
t... It usually cost around E50-E60 for 1 main meal (Pizza, Meatballs etc) and 1 drink for us.50 Euros for a pizza (or similar) and a drink seems to be the norm now in the European capital cities (well certainly the ones I've visited). Quite bonkers really.
But Dublin seems necessarily so (expensive). No real sights to see etc (compared to say Rome or Paris, (or Halifax for that matter)).

Seriously though, is it just me being tight fisted or do these kind of prices not put a dent in one's enjoyment of the holiday / break?

My parents went to Paris in August last year, and said alcohol was similarly priced there. I guess you're right though, at least in Paris, Rome etc, there are sights to see. Apart from the Guiness factory and without using Google, Off the top of my head, I can't think of another famous landmark there...

See, that's my feeling too. At least with Paris you can *almost* forgive the prices due the city being quite spectacular.
But I'm with you all the way on that one.
