...to be honest, so do i.

we have a few days off in a weeks time, so in the interest of a suprise romantic themed getaway, does anyone have any ideas or experiences of where to stay?

or even if anything is actually open in february!?

i'm off to research it now, will be back in an hour for any helpful comments...

cheers!

Well this has to be the strangest post I've seen since joining! Or am I missing some in joke? (I doubt it!)

Do you mean to Barry Island?

I had an afternoon there last year when we went to Cardiff for a wedding. The theme park is st and but the beach and promenade was quite nice. We were lucky with the weather and had a pleasant walk round the headland to Jacksons Bay.

Not more than an afternoon's worth. Mind you, we did get a rather lovely Sugar Tits mug!

Beautiful:

I'm wondering if 'Gavin & Stacey' in this context is a euphemism.

I live about 10 miles from Barry Island and would think twice before going there for a whole day. It's OK for a visit but there are no hotels. It's not far from Porthcawl where they have a better fun fair (if it's open) or there is the massive caravan site at Trecco Bay....

However, I recommend Spain.

My family is from further along beyond the end of the M4. We were always pestering my mum to stop off at these seaside spots and she always refused wink

Not that you would, but just in case you were thinking of visiting Billericay, it is worth noting that not a single frame of the series was shot there.

most of the erm... "landmarks" are within a few miles of each other around cardiff, so i'm going to "treat" her to a cheesey day out, taking pics!

she'll either love it or hate it, but i'm unable to predict which. wish me luck!

I'm originally from Barry and used to work on the Island in the summers for the Council (selling deck chairs/car park duty/crazy golf).

Dead wierd to watch G&S and see the places where I used to hang out. The large kiosk/small shop where Stacey worked used to be a gift shop only run by an old dear who used to employ 2-3 young girls in the summer. My best mate worked for a while in 'Nessa's slots'. For my first year on the Island I worked in the funfair (0.70p an hour from memory) on the side shows - every one of them had a 'fix' to make it hard for the punters to win. wink

The only vaguely semi-decent hotel in Barry itself used to be the Mount Sorrel (I delivered papers there as a nipper) but best to stay in Cardiff if you are going to the area.

Oh...the caravan park where Dave and Nessa lived in the caravan was where I first got served in a bar...15 yo JUST! hehe

There is a bus tour of filming locations, and they use Dave's Coaches coach:

A couple of years ago I was in Cardiff with work and had an hour to kill so swung by Barry Island and the street where Stacey lives. My god, it's as steep as it looks!

It is a bleak old st hole.

But the chippy on the sea front serves some good fish and chips.

Beach isn't bad though. But I'd rather shoot myself than go there. Porthcawl is better, and that's saying something!
