Will be spending a few days in the zone between New York and Boston next month. Would be great to hear about any experiences and activities PHers can recommend out in that neck of the woods. I don't mind where I go or what I do. Particularly keen to hear about any one-on-one tuition type stuff, new experiences and the like (not being smutty here!). Nothing to do with food or cooking though, but apart from that I'm up for anything.

A bit further to the East, but if you have the time, head over to Newport in RI, great place, loads to see and do - mostly with Kennedy or nautical theme http://www.gonewport.com/ or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newport,_Rhode_Island

Back in NY State, Saratoga is an interesting place http://www.saratoga.com/ - spa town and horsies...

There is not much of NY State between NYC and Boston - it is mostly Connecticut.
I assume you have a car? If so then my suggestions:
- Mystic Seaport
- Newport Rhode Island to see a few "summer houses" and do the Cliff Walk. The town is sort of nice to prowl around.
- Cape Cod is nice in summer if you want to sit on a beach.
- Lime Rock raceway has regular races on. Their vintage races are my favorites there. Maybe a little too far north and west to be technically between NYC and Boston.
- Kennedy Presidential Museum just south of Boston I found to be interesting.

In NY State a little off the path (you head north before you head east) you would have:
- Hudson River valley - scenic driving roads, old houses to tour. FDR Presidential library and Museum is interesting.
- West Point Military Academy
- Orange County Choppers is interesting for a brief stop. Located in Newburgh NY.

Thanks for this LC, will check these suggestions out, please excuse my poor state knowledge! The two extremes of my journey are NYC in the west and MIT/Harvard in Cambridge, Mass, effectively Boston for simplicity's sake. OCC potentially interesting, wonder if any of the original people are left there apart from Paul Sr?

Some great vineyards in the upper upper bits of NY state around Niagara and they do tours. Niagara by the Lake is also a postcard picture perfect little town.

Done the east coast between New York, Boston and Portland (Maine) quite often. It's great to take the train from NY to Boston: you can take the fast train or the slow stopper which is much more fun if you have the time.

Looking for different 'experiences' in New York City as well if anybody knows of any. Not the regular touristy stuff.
