Holiday, 2nd week of April. Mauritus- worth it?
Discussion
Hi All,
Due my contract ending with work, holiday time is in peak season.
The price of our packed is decent enough (and £100 either way makes no difference), however, with this being our only exotic holiday this year, will April make Mauritus a busy, less enjoyable relaxing place?
Thanks,
HF

Mauritius is always an enjoyable, relaxing place, it only really gets busy if you take a trip to Port Louis
. April should be a good time to go as it's the end of their summer and won't be quite as hot and humid as December/Jan time, but you'll still need your mosquito repellent. Whenever I've been (Dec/Jan, July/Aug and Sep/Oct) the weather could be a bit unpredictable, but mostly plenty of sun. Have you been before?

I've got family there so I don't stay at the hotels- but have been to plenty of them to eat/swim etc and they don't really get too busy- it's all kept relaxing and upmarket since you're usually paying a fair rate to have a exclusive holiday. Places like Grand Baie get busy as there's lots of restaurants/bars etc, and obviously the capital Port Louis is a busy city, with good shopping and worth the trip from the beach resorts. If you get the chance try and get away from the hotel for a day, you get to see the real island- I always enjoy driving there as you never know what you'll get 'round the corner- usually a dog, chicken or sugar cane truck in the middle of the road

No visa needed for British citizens... just your passport. Have a good trip, if you venture out from the hotel/resort I recommend visiting Casela nature park if you like animals, Trou aux Biches for another nice beach, Garden Pampelmousess which are relaxing botanical gardens, and shopping in Port Louis, there's some nice places by the waterfront and the market in the city which is pretty mental. Whenever I've eaten out the standard of food has been very good and pretty reasonably priced. Everyone speaks French-Creole normally but most speak some English too.

Thanks for the advice.
We are booked up for a week from May 2nd.
Should be fun. Am I right in thinking we dont VISAs with British passports; the web says we dont, but our travel agent thinks we do!

really really nice- but not as secluded as perhaps i wanted- that's not a reflection on the island mind, just a reflection on our choice i think.
Casela park was amazing- walking and touching lion and tiger cubs was just phenomonal and one of only 2 places in the world you can do it- not cheap but well well worth it.
Pamplemousses is interesting too- large arboretum- don't be afraid to pay for a quide- infact we paid over the odds for loads of stuff- mainly becuase they don't earn much out there. The local papares are well worth a read- great comedy value in them

take a trip on a catarman duing the day as that was fun.
also particularly enjoyed a walk in the black river gorges- we didn't see anyone else- although it was very very hot and humid and we didn't take ennough water.
