Has anyone ever planned or been on a stag do in Krakow? Or indeed been to Krakow?

I'm currently planning one - are there any places that are a must or indeed is there anything to miss out?

Any pointers much appreciated.

Auschwitz and the Wieliczka salt mine are two must do's that immediately spring to mind.

Agree with previous comments on Salt Mines and Auschwitz.

The main square in Krakow is nice to walk around and has some nice bars and restaurants around it.

Wawel Castle is also worth a look and affords some nice views around Krakow.

Oskar Schinlders factory and museum is worth a look if you have some time as is a walk around the old Jewish Quarter.

We really enjoyed our trip 3 years ago when we went.

Personally as much as I think visiting Auschwitz would be both very moving and interesting I don't see it as a stag do activity?

Was thinking a similar thing myself - they are not usually two words I would connect in the same sentence

It's where the groom wants to go.

There's lots of staggish things to do too, by the looks of it. Shooting, paintball, go karts, offroading, clubs, and strippers.

I have to say a group of drunk/or hungover mates on a jolly jape does not seem like the sort of group that should be visiting Auschwitz. It's a place for respect, humility, anger and tears at the memory of the poor beggars on the earlier group visit. frown

If you trust them all implicitly not to let the whole country down by behaving like typical Brits on a stag do then fair enough.

don't go to krakow, go to riga in latvia it utterly sts on krakow.

I found we got refused a lot of places in poland purely for being brits, and we aren't even rowdy. One of the lads got smacked in the chops and his phone nicked. The women were surprisingly munted, and outside of the square there isn't much. If strip bars are your thing there is one and it is miles out of town and felt dodge to travel to.

Riga by comparison is super-easy going, the women are wall to wall amazing, tons of bars and outside drinking, even a break from the booze for a morning of decent sightseeing is do-able. Had a great time there.

Does anyone else agree with the above?

and auschwitz with a hangover?? I swerved that one not because I didn't want to see it - i very much did and do; it just isn't stag do tackle IMO. It really does depend what you are after, but a lot of people bang on about krakow, but i and a good few of the lads i went with thought it was st. I went with a diff group of lads to Riga and it was no real comparison. Oh and 30 odd degrees in July! One of the lads (who happens to be the brother of a famous TV personality and PHer) didn't realise this fact and turned up with only heavy coats, jumpers and jeans.

We went to Riga three years ago and would agree with all the comments made by the poster above.

It's superb.

We also went to Budapest last year. Again very very good.

Both lovely cities - Budapest probably the nicer of the two cities, Riga probably the better stag location.

In three weeks i'm going to Krakow. Can you wait that long for a comparison?

Krakow is a great city (I've been twice), but I think it's somewhere you go if you fancy a relaxing/cultural long weekend...not a stag. It's actually relatively small and relaxed - not exactly party central. Never been to Riga, but from what I've heard from people who have, I suspect it lends itself slightly better to a stag do.

Great place to go. I havent had a stag weekend there but did my 40th lads weekend away in Krakow.

The camps are actually a really good day out. Very sobering, but it means you get on the evening session properly. Some superb underground bars, quality restuarants and we found everyone really friendly.

We werent rolling about drunk, but certainly carrying more than our bodyweight in alchohol most of the time, and didnt have any issues at all.

Dont use street money exchanges. Dont let your mates think they are tough. Dont leave your mobiles on in the camps.

I found a really cheap hotel about 200 metres from the main square. It had room at 30 per night for the poorer mates up to a mini suite at 70 for the flush ones. Also had a quad room for groups at about 10 per person per night!

Just looked and prices have gone up a bit but have a look http://www.pollera.com.pl/en,apartamenty.php

They sorted people carriers from the airport and to take us to camps etc.. also i remember we got a good discount on the rooms.

Agreed, I've been visiting Krakow since the early 1980's, indeed I nearly moved there permanently a couple of years ago and I really struggle to understand why it is so popular with stags. I'm sure if you go you will have a great time but I think there must be better and probably cheaper places for a stag.
