Villalonga/Gandia/Oliva

Having a bit of a hard time finding unbooked villas in the summer holidays.
I'm pretty much fed up of Costa Blanca and all the traffic but suffice to say, the main batch of unbooked villas are in that area as there are more of them. So I'm looking a bit further north than the usual Denia/Javea traffic jam and there seems to be a few nice villas in the La Safor area around Villalonga, Oliva and Gandia (which is as far north as I want to go). Slightly further north are La Drova and Barx. These villas have private pools which is going to be essential in August and I'm guessing that it might be cooler than on the coast.
The coast is about 20 minutes away but I've not been to this area before so don't know if it's going to be too dull.
The option is a villa in the far more commercial Calpe. We have 3 kids from 3-12 so need to keep them entertained though a pool will generally do that.
