Pretty much the same as Bruge...plus a canal.

Gent is nice, a bigger version of Bruges really. There are lots of war graves if you like visiting that sort of thing. Ostend is ok for a wander round too.

The restaurants round the main square in Bruges are not very good and pretty pricey.

One day, two at the most, wandering round Brugge and you'll have seen everything, twice.

Ypres is only about an hour away - lots of places to see re WWI and several companies that do morning or afternoon tours of the local battlefields for not a lot of Euros.

Sit in a bar and try all the beers?

Belgium is very narrow there, so head over the border in to the Netherlands or Northern France?

Don't spend all day 'testing' the beers, and the local chocolates, and have a bucket of mussels, and then have a chinese meal or you will be sick in the gutter next to some poor Belgians Ford Galaxy.

P.M. me. I'll take you on a road trip along the coast and around the Ieper Salient taking in the major sites, but along nice country roads.

When are you coming?

Ostend has some lovely beaches actually...

My first overseas holiday as a child was to Ostend, which people laugh about when I tell them, but it was great actually biggrin

My parents found a little bar where this rather gifted bloke played Jazz (forget what now, but he had a minor hit in the UK chart as I recall) and there were lots of Eddy Merckx posters everywhere as he'd recently won the TdF for the God knows how many-th time smile

They had a great organised beach club for the kids, with all sorts of activities and the sand seemed to go on for ever!

Ah, simpler times... My kids want to go to the Caribbean this year!

M

PS Bruge has a canal (or two) as well, so Gent's not really that different smile Do you like Mussels?

Right So
Gent, Ostend, Ypres and ascoiated WW1 sights that should just about cover it.

You may as well do Brussels as well then, it's only an hour on the train.

It's worth a look around the centre of Brussels, used to live there. If you're there for 4 days, that's a great timescale for spending 4 days sampling the beer and frites. If you're unlucky you'll sober up before you leave!

Place Jordan for frites with mayo and a beer!
