Vegas Wedding plans?
Discussion
Getting married this summer, July/aug, and we fancy just going out the country somewhere to do it, as family logistics preclude anything easy in the UK, and we are lazy to sort it!
I fancy Vegas, has anyone done it there? Good/bad companies to go with etc, or other location suggestions?

I researched this loads before getting married in 09,highly recommend the chapel of the flowers, very professional and lovely surroundings.
I would recommend the Chapel of the Flowers. They were superb. Also hotel wise you can't really go wrong with any of the big ones (Mgm, Planet Hollywood, Mirage, Ceasers, Venetian, Bellagio, Treasure Island).
Stay well clear of Circus Circus or any down that end.
I got married in 2005 at the chapel of flowers and they were brilliant. We stayed at the Luxor, lovely hotel but at the wrong end of the strip. You want to stay mid strip if possible otherwise you will have long walks everywhere although there are (UK double decker) buses called the "deuce" that go along the strip regularly.
Got married in Central Park 4 years ago. Just the two of us, no family.
Arranged everything from the uk over the internet and turned out the perfect day.
We first thought about Vegas but changed our mind, and glad we did, but thats just our preferance.
If you change your mind on location i can pass on details if you wish.

When we cancelled our 'proper' wedding due to family rubbish & hassle, we considered vegas, but the whole place is just sooooo tacky we couldn't bear to do it.
So we went and did it recently on a beach in malibu, just the two of us.
We used this guy, Chris - www.officiantguy.com - who can do it anywhere in Los Angeles county, and has the bonus of he is certified to issue what is called a confidential marriage license, which means no queuing up at city hall, no witness needed, and no telemarketers trawling the marriage records and spamming you forever. Just turn up, sign a few forms and say the words, and that is basically it.
Very inexpensive, hassle free (two phone calls and a couple of emails about location and vows) and can do it anywhere in LA county, which has some amazing places to get married. FYI, chris was $300, license fee $200, and an amazing photographer he recommended was $400. We contacted him on less than 48hrs notice, and I can't recommend him more highly.
You mentioned NY, which is where we were originally planning to do it...try Mary at www.elopenewyork.com who was most helpful. Cost works out about the same as the LA option we eventually went for.

We got married at 'Chapel of the Flowers' 2 years ago. Cannot speak highly enough about the whole experience and service. I fancy Vegas, has anyone done it there? Good/bad companies to go with etc, or other location suggestions?
We wanted a nice chapel, cute and not tacky. (Mind you they will do Elvis if you ask)

- Wedding advisor online and on call before we left the UK
- Limo pickup and tour
- Excellent service with a really nice Pastor
- Superb Photographer, got some great shot and new his stuff
We stayed at the Venetian and found it very nice with a great location, centre strip.
Wedding Dinner was Surf N Turf at 'Joes'. I'd been to the Chicago Joe's and loved it. The staff at the Vegas restaurant In Ceasors Palace) really went out of their way to make it special. The Steaks and Lobster are to die for.
Bottom line, was a perfect day. Shout if you have further Q's.

I got married in Vegas recently, used the chapel of something or other, had the ceremony in the Valley of Fire national park at the Seven Sisters rocks. Bloody brilliant really - pickup from the hotel by limo, stopped at the chapel to get some documents, went to the county office place round the corner and signed a form, back in limo, to national park, married by reverend Jim Hamilton (who has signed 63,000 marriage certicates apparently!), photos taken, champagne, back in limo to the strip. Photos and certificates in the post a few days later, bish, bash, bosh.
Neither me nor the wife can stand overblown, traditional church weddings and thought something more private and fun would be much more us. On top of the complete ease and convenience (I spent the day exploring Vegas on foot, drove a Ferrari in the afternoon, left to get married at 15:45 and was back in my hotel room ready to head back out to eat and drink by 19:30!), the Valley of Fire is an absolutely stunning place. It's where they filmed the "Surface of Mars" footage at the start of Arnie's "Total Recall", it's been in a few films. It's just so wild and open, and when we were there it was dead silent too, apart from the occasional helicopter heading to Lake Mead!
You don't have to do the Elvis minister and drive through wedding thing - but more power to you if you do, but the main thing for me is the convenience. They get so many people married there you really are on a conveyer belt, as such you can expect excellent service because they are so well practised.
As for hotels, we stayed at the Aria, and having been in most of the other big ones, it's a cut above the rest in terms of class. It's part of a triplet of hotels that are part of the "CityCentre" project, with the Vdara and the Mandarin Oriental. The latter two are high class, low key establishments, with no casinos and less guest amenities, they also have renting tenants, whose monthly rent must be astronomical!, whereas the Aria is the biggest of the 3, with a huge, lavish casino, 4000 rooms or something ridiculous like that, and about 16 bars and restaurants. Oh, and an events centre, pool area, spa, shopping centre etc. Some deride it because it doesn't have a theme, other than "opulence and luxury" really, compared to the likes of the Luxor, Excalibur, Caeser's Palace etc, but we loved it.
One thing is practically assured in my experience, that wherever you go the customer service is amazing compared to what you get in the UK.

I got married in the chapel at the Mandalay Bay 5 years ago. No hassle on my part, just had to choose the date, the colour of the flowers , and what tunes I wanted the piano player to play. They provided a limo to take us to the courthouse to get the licence. The ceremony was broadcast on the internet, and available for a month for those who couldn't get across. As we were getting married in their chapel, the hotel gave us a free upgrade to a bigger suite, which was so nice, we ending up staying a few more days. Far easier, and much cheaper than going through the morning suit/church/marquee routine in this country.
The only minor problem, as mentioned by another poster, is being at the end of the strip, which requires either getting the Deuce bus, which can be slow, or taking a good pair of walking trainers and hoofing it up and down the strip.
