You have a lot of choice. You could drive, you can do a tour, you could take a helicopter.

If you're there for long enough then I'd sort it out when you're in Vegas and know what else you want to do.

Go to dream car rentals and hire a 427 cobra replica, then drive it through the desert at 4am. Simples.

I done mine when I got there, you will have quite a few companies to choose from as its a big tourist attraction pick the one that suits you best for price and options

Hi, did this trip while in vegas last year, depends how long you want to spend out, all day or a few hours, we went for the later or other wise its a big chunk of your time taken up if your not there very long. Booked through the hotel, loads of companys to choose from but we went with Sundance Helicopters, limo to their hanger and very little time hanging around would recomend them......highlight of the holiday, incredible, dont miss it woohoo

I got a helicopter from canyon village, maverick something or other they were good. I just booked online they had secure chat on their website.

I drove Vegas and south east through Arizona then up through Utah and back through Zion, Bryce etc

I got a proper jeep with low range etc and did a lot of miles off road - I'd do it no other way all the best things we saw were away from the interstate.

Yes Maverick had a a lot of adverts when I was in Vegas - I didn't have tome to go but my friends highly recommended a tour of the canyon via chopper... Here's their site FYI:

All good recs above, the only additional thing I would add is to do the trip early in the morning if by chopper as it gets very hot in the canyon during midday towards early afternoon.

And if its your 1st time in Vegas, you are gonna love it, we go every year for a boys outing and it just gets better and better!!!!!

We did a real early morning breakfast flight with Maverick it was brilliant they park the chopper seamingly right on the edge as you come down then did a full explore on the way back over the canyon and lake mead finally down the strip to finish really good value especially if there are a few of you and can do a deal we had 4 adults 2 kids as a party.

I used Sundance tours and they do a really good evening landing in the Canyon and then picnic and then fly out at dusk. As you come in over the strip at night it's beautiful and if you are lucky you get to see the Bellagio fountains from above.

Make sure you dont get conned into going to the West Rim, because it isnt really the Grand Canyon. The South Rim (Or North but harder to get to) are the best places to see it. If somebody offers you a helicopter ride into the bottom of the Canyon its the West Rim as you cant fly below the rim of the proper Canyon.

I used a company called VisionAir, £110 each and they flew us to the Canyon, got a tour, etc etc.

I stayed at the main hotel on the "ring". As above we did a canyon helicopter from maverick.

Note that all the helicopters can only follow set paths (long/mdeium/short) and arent allowed down into the canyon.

Hire a regular car from Hertz, and collect it from Vegas. When you get there, find out what they have in the fun collection and pick something and pay the uplift ($20 a day for us to up from a mid size to a Corvette Convertible.

For a bit of balance: I've been to, in and over the grand canyon, it's just a hole in the ground.

Each to their own and all but the Grand Canyon is more than just a hole in the ground, we did it last year and even my wife who has no interest in this type of thing at all could appreciate the spectacle of it.

We used maverick as well and found them to be fantastic, they are a little bit more expensive than other companies but IMO they are worth the extra.

My vids from the Maverick Helicopter below. Yes is is "just a hole in the ground", but a VERY VERY deep one (the pilot said if the engines stopped it would take a minute to fall to the bottom), and extremely spectacular IMHO.

OP I'd ask the concierge at your hotel - they can get some good deals usually, guess it depends on your hotel and the individual though.

I've done a helicopter tour with Sundance, as Fox says ask if they go to the canyon proper not just the west rim. I've also driven a copuple of times, first was in an Escalade the second time was four of us with a hired Viper and a hired vette. That was fun!

Another vote for Maverick. Did their early morning trip and was very impressed. The helicopters they use seem to be very well suited for this type of trip... happy to post pics if that helps?

Not true. When we went with Maverick a few years ago we landed in the canyon and spent some time chilling out and taking in the view. Looks like they still do it. http://www.maverickhelicopter.com/tour-wind-dancer...

Unless things have changed, Maverick are the only ones to fly from the main airport (private terminal) which saves quite a long drive.

You're right, they do still do it, I went in June last year and set down on a ledge in the canyon. Beware though, the turbulence can be horrendous. Years flying offshore in the North Sea and that was by far and away the bumpiest flight I've been on vomit

We went in December and the flight was smooth, no issues at all. Guess it just depends on the weather on the day.

My wife was nervous as she had never been in a helicopter before but I had been flown in a helicopter a number of times and I have to say the pilot was superb.

We will be going back next year and I have to say I really like the idea of driving out in a muscle car.
