I have to get from Meersburg on the north shore of Lake Constance to Annecy soon, I can take 2 days and would like to use the most scenic route.
Does anybody know if the Furka pass and the Grimsel pass is open yet?

Suggestions would be appreciated regarding the general route and recommendation for a stopover location

According to Das Alpenportal the passes aren't open yet.

My route would be This

Appenzell is a lovely town!

Some of the best Swiss cheese, beer and whisky come from there too. Passes will be closed until June at the earliest.

Yes thanks for the replies, I thought we'd stop at Interlaken

Regarding the first bit is there a compelling reason to go around the east end of lake Costance rather than take the ferry accross it, it does seem to increase the mileage somewhat?

If you were doing this trip in the summer then yes. You could drive down to Chur and then go across country over the Klausen and Furka passes and then head to Martigny. From there you take the pass over the boarder to Chamonix and then onto Annecy. If you want to do it quickly then head along the A1 past Zurich and Bern, then follow signs for Geneve. Annecy is about 40 minutes south from there.

Instead of staying in Interlaken, how about this Historic Swiss hotel The lake ferry leaves from the hotel to Interlaken. Great place for lunch as well!
