I work from home but the company I am working for are now interested in me commuting to their London office.

I go once a week on average and get the train from Warwick Parkway at 7:15 which gets me to Marylebone for 8:25 and then I walk to Baker Street and jump on the sweaty overloaded rolling piece of sh*t that is the Tube to Farringdon to get to the office door for 9AM.

I then do the same home.

Total travelling time door to door: 5 hours.

Season ticket: £650/mo plus Tube.

I am considering driving it, sounds crazy but I've done it before, 1:45 to Uxbridge and then 50 mins tube to Farringdon. Costs rougly same in a Derv at 50mpg.

Is there a Tube station further into London than Uxbridge that has parking, isn't full of traffic at rush hour and is a quick (30min?) ride to Farringdon as direct as possible?

Not asking for much laugh

P.s. yes i'm crazy, yes they are paying London rates and it'll probably be 1-2-3 months until I cave in and get a flat or Mon-Fri flatshare.

Finchley Road, you can use the back roads from Brent X to get there and you park in the car park behind Sainsburys or Watford which is convenient for getting out to the M40

Look for a train into Farringdon instead? Luton Airport Parkway station should have parking I'd think, isn't far from the M1, and is 30-odd minutes into Farringdon on a fast train. Might even get a seat on it if you're lucky!

Worth thinking about stations on the Thameslink (First Capital Connect) and traveling direct to Farringdon without touching the tube?

Watford Junction, not Met, it's a very important distinction wink might be worth a go, loads of parking and only 17 mins to Euston although the last 10 minutes driving from the edge of Watford to Watford Junction can always go a bit wrong :?

Across and down the M1 to Hemel Hempstead, might be a good (read more reliable) option.

Get a motorbike and ride in. Quickest and most rewarding option, maybe the cheapest. Honda vfr or a cbr600

By far best bet is a semi fast or fast Met train to Farringdon.

Forget the Uxbridge branch, slow as all stations and the trains stink in the morning.

You can grab a semi fast from Watford but to be honest I'd get a fast from Moor Park. Harrow on the Hill has parking but it can be a slog to get in to from the M25.

Actually, coming from the Midlands, I'd come off the M25 at Rickmansworth and get a fast from there.

I wouldn't bother with Finchley Road we've managed to get residents parking all over to keep you feckers out. wink

Hillingdon??

Warwick to Hillingdon is 80 miles so just over an hour, M40 will be empty that time of the morning.

Hillingdon station parking is £5 for 24hrs and is 56 mins to Farringdon

So, best case, 2 hours. Each way. London is st.

Or rather, long commutes suck.

Problem isn't so much London but everyone else trying to do the same. You could drive further into London but its there that you will hit the traffic and take a long time to go not very far.

I am sure that car park would be pretty horrendous for a 10 hour stay.

It's priced to stop commuters parking there.

Someone I know gets a train from Wellingborough to Farringdon. It's (as far as trains go) a good service but expensive. I think it takes about an hour on the train, which may be a bit quicker for you if you're that side of Warwick.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've tried most/ all for travel time door to door and they can't beat the current:

Warick Parkway > Marylebone > Baker Street > Farringdon in 2.5 hours, and the same home.

By the way I live in Worcestershire so it's 30 mins to Warwick Parkway.

£634.50 per month for the train every day plus Tube. Brilliant.

Going down tomorrow and it's £99.50 return, yes for a return. Including Tube but still, what a joke. Glad I'm not paying for it!

OP. Your best option is the M40/A40 and get on the Met line at Hillingdon/Ickenham/Ruislip. All have a car park. Ruislip has some free street parking close to the station. It's 50mins by tube to Farringdon and you'll get a seat. You can get on a fast train at Harrow if you time it right.
