The Mrs and I are planning to get a short break in July. This will also be our first trip with the newest addition to our family our little boy who is the ripe old age of 7 months. I've been very lucky that I've always been able to travel long haul, so I've cruely over looked more local breaks.

We're based just outside of London so it would be nice to be able drive somewhere. I'm thinking south west or northern France.

Does anybody have any suggestions? I don't fancy a hotel as it would be nice to have somewhere the wife and I could go when the little man is snoozing. So a villa / cottage I'm guessing. It would be nice to go somewhere that isn't dependent on the weather.

Does it have to be overseas? I'm doing the Lake District with my new arrival in a few months. Investing in a decent sling (with proper back and hip support) so we can bimble up a few Wainwrights.
I go on about The Lakes like a broken record but however many times we go we just don't seem to get bored of the area - it's beautiful.

Nope, it doesn't have to be overseas. Just a place that means we can get away from things for a little while. The lakes is tempting.

France would be a decent bet, we took our little ones to euro/keycamp places.

France is quite easy with kids, and generally they are welcomed by the locals in restaurants etc, unlike the UK!

You might want to avoid the south in July, our kids got really bad tampered in hot weather at that age

I don't think we will go as far as the south of France, the north has a romantic appeal to me. Although I'm not sure quite what it is that appeals...

Bookmarked...expecting our first anytime now, would be nice to get away end of the summer somewhere, probably European and moderately cheap.

We went to the atlantic coast of France when our little lad was about 8 or nine months though we flew into Bordeaux and drove down from there...we stayed just north of Biaritz. A short plane journey with a baby that age is no bother as they aren't walking and still sleep a lot....once they are on the move then it's a much bigger headache.

Ours are now 3 1/2 and 1 1/2 and we haven't been on a plane for two years with the kids.....and we won't for another year or so. Like you we've done plenty of nice holidays and the aggro is jut not worth it!

I'm a big fan of UK holidays, and some of the best holidays have been on Isle of Wight and Torquay. Now the kids are a little older (8 and 6), they still prefer going to IoW than Turkey / Egypt

somoone posted this in another thread is interesting although maybe not for a week

"Ickworth House just outside Bury St Edmunds"

would always recommend devon / cornwall - check out blackpool sands v family friendly

having said that when ours was 6 months we took her to greece as many people say its easier at that age than when theyre 1-2. was v easy as long as its not too hot where ure going.
