I have booked some internal flights with American Airlines for a holiday in the USA. I have a question about transfers and luggage. For example, I am starting at NYC with a destination of PDX, but will be going via the hub at Dallas. I will have checked luggage for the flight. Can I assume that because my flight is NYC to PDX, when I change aircraft in Dallas that my luggage will change too? I wont need to wait around at a carrousel in Dallas and then have to re-check the luggage onto the next leg of the flight?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I had a look on FlyerTalk, but none of their FAQs seemed to answer this question, and the AA website wasn't any better.

If it's all internal then I think you should be ok.

If you were arriving on an international flight it would be a horror show,

Thats what I thought. I will have already done the international arrival into NYC a couple of days previously, so i'm hoping this should all be fine.

As it is internal you should be fine. When you check in, see what tags they put on your bag. It should show two three digit airport codes - big text is the final destination and in smaller text the routing/change airport. I always check my labels to make sure Miss Ditsy on the check in counter did the right thing. If you did this right then it should go to your final destination without you having to do anything in Dallas.
