Done a hundred times I know but would be good to get a recent update on my shortlisted locations. I have been asked to be best man and am considering the following locations for the stag party:

- Amsterdam
- Budapest
- Riga
- Krakow

Groom is pretty sporty and pretty game for trying new things. He was also a serial womaniser before he found the right girl so a location where there is a high concentration of beautiful women would be a nice send off!

Plan would be the standard fare of two nights pubbing and clubbing, with some activities to be organised in the day. We are all pretty middle class so some sight-seeing wouldn’t go a miss!

My current favourite is Budapest, mainly due to an article on Tripadvisor which said “Budapest nightlife can be summarized in three words: hottest girls ever”.

Any thoughts or recommendations or reasons not to go to any of these places?

Hotter than Riga and Krakow? Debatable!

Just leave the matching t-shirts at home and any of those will give a good time. I'd be less inclined to go to the dam though.

Vegas every time. As the saying goes, "what goes on in Vegas, stays in Vegas"

That's a long way and a lot of cost for a weekend. Try Blackpool instead wink

Vegas would be great but don't want to alienate potential invitees with something that will cost the earth.

HR - yeah, if we go to some Eastern bloc location we won't be doing anything that might get us roughed up...well at least not until the local beers start flowing...

To be honest this is my shortlist as the ushers are still being chosen! These are just ideas I will bring to the table once me and the ushers can get together and discuss.

I'd be interested to see the replies to this, rather than start another thread asking the same question.

Sorry to thread hi-jack, but any decent UK based stag locations would be of interest.

I took my mate to the tomatina in spain near Valencia. Valencia was a great place to stay with plenty of stag type things to do and a beach and the tomatina was a hoot!

We went to York for mine (went to Uni there) and it was fantastic. Night out on the Friday at our old haunting grounds, to York Racecourse suited and booted on the Saturday (if gambling is your thing) then out on the lash again in the evening.

Depends what you like doing. Here in Bath we get lots of stag and hen parties for the usual drinking and clubbing. Other cities are better if you want stripclubs/casinos.

The best stag do I've been on was renting a house in the peak district and going caving and abseiling followed by an evening in the pub, but we were all 30+ and have done the whole drinking/clubbing/strippers stereotype to death. I prefer the events with more imagination now.

I went to Riga on a lads weekend in 2007. If I never step foot in the place again, it'll be too soon. Hated the place-too many obnoxious ethnic Russians ruin the place. The old town is beautiful but I couldn't recommend it for a stag do. If you do decide to go, then don't go near the strip clubs as you will get scammed/frog marched to the nearest cash-point/severe kicking at best.

I'd go for Budapest or Krakow.

I wanted to have mine in Vegas but the costs were prohibitive to some of my friends so I went to Edinburgh instead (I'm from Ireland and live in Swansea so it was a major pain finding somewhere to go for a weekend where flights tallied up). Cracking weekend as it was the start of the fringe festival and also the Scotland v Ireland pre world cup friendly rugby game.

This is what I did for mine. Had a belting time! The Fringe was an added bonus and the town was heaving. Make sure you book a hotel early though.

My best man is having his stag do at the end of Feb and we've just booked Budapest for a long weekend - very reasonably priced as well - at least it is until we get there and start boozing!

I've just had mine and we ended up going to Bournemouth which I must say was excellent. We toyed with going abroad but we took 23 to Bournemouth, if we had gone abroad it would probably have been more like 10 (The company Directors only of course).

Bournemouth was nicely set up for stag parties without there being overrun with them (like Newquay can be) and the beach when the sun came out on Saturday was a sight to behold........

when is it for?

not long been back from Amsterdam for the 3rd time and did Prague back in 07. Amsterdam is very good but expensive and a weed ban for tourists comes in place Jan 2013 which IMO will kill off stag/birthday tourism to the city. Prague was abit quieter but very cheap in the supermarkerts (14p for a can of beer, £2.50 for a bottle of vodka) £3 a pint in there huge nightclub that locals avioded as it was a ripoff, average about £2 a beer when out. lots of strip clubs

March / April 2013.

Perhaps Krakow is not a good idea at that time of year??
