Pisa, Florence and maybe Tuscany
Discussion
Probably left this one a little late, as I'm flying in a few hours, but any recommendations on must-do and must-see things in these places?
We are there for four days and will be based in Pisa but spending a day in Florence and likely taking some time out to explore parts of Tuscany.
Cannot wait to eat proper Italian food again. If I come back and I am able to fit into any of my clothes then I will consider myself a failure.

We're doing the same thing (inc Siena) soon and I've found this website v helpful http://www.athomeintuscany.org/2011/01/21/how-to-t... Tips on getting the train from Pisa to Florence and what to see in both cities.
Gareth, if you are hiring a car, then I cannot stress enough that you check out this link and STAY OUT OF THE ZTL ZONES -

Most 'historic' city centres in that area of Italy will have them and they are easy to miss and you will be fined if you don't follow the signs (you are fined each time you pass into the zone - and it's a very expensive fine). There are hundreds of forum posts from people who have received fines up to a year later for their own cars and hire cars. So be warned! Much better to park way outside the city centres and get public transport in. Of course, if you aren't in a car, then ignore this completely!!!!
On a lighter note, try to get to Sienna (A MUST SEE) Arezzo and Orvieto (getting a bit far south, I know - but they are stunning cities.)

What a shame I just picked up on this thread Gareth! You could have stopped by our farmhouse (Cortona) !We are there for four days and will be based in Pisa but spending a day in Florence and likely taking some time out to explore parts of Tuscany.
