Looking for UK based holiday suggestions for me, wife and two kids (8&6). We've done Isle of Wight, Chester and Devon, and they've been the best holidays we've had, so looking for some other really good destinations in the UK where there's stuff to do with the family, indoor and outdoor. Am thinking along the lines of Edinburgh, Cornwall, New Forest, but would welcome suggestions from places you would recommend

Thx

My advice is to never use the phrase Staycation again.

On a more practical level, North Yorkshire Moors / York area. York has lots to do if the weather is poor, the Moors has a lot of outdoors stuff to do and the coast.

When were you planning on going?

If August, forget Edinburgh. The Fringe takes over the place. It's great if you're going to the Fringe, but it massively hikes hotel and pub/restaurant prices and the place is jam packed.

Great fun though, just not particularly appropriate for a young family holiday smile

For families -North Wales.

Wildlife, steam trains, forests, mountains, lakes, mines, Portmerion, farms, craft centres, cafes, zoos, fair grounds, shops.

It has everything. And some nice roads.

It also has lovely beaches.

If your kids are old enough to just enjoy being in the landscape, and watching wildlife, then Scotland is Wales, but prettier, quieter, and with fewer 'attractions'

Yes absolutely agree. You don't need to give a name to not going abroad, it has the tone of "we normally go abroad ever single year somewhere expensive, but there is a new fad that gemima and olly told us about called staycationing so we're going to try it out no definitely not just not going abroad don't be silly, of course we can afford it we just are deliberately choosing not to this year"!

Britain is a fantastic place! The only thing you are not going to get is a high likelihood of sun or beaches but it depends what you want.

Trouble with holidaying in Britain is that, if you want to stay in places other than low rent B&Bs and Travel Lodge type hotels, it's often a lot more expensive than going abroad. Plus you have to battle the traffic to get anywhere.

(The sheer volume of traffic on the M5 yesterday was ridiculous - so bad that it was hard to even find parking spaces in the services)
