I've been looking into having a hotel on a daytrip, so between about 8:30am and 5pm, just to have somewhere to crash etc and am surprised to discover it's not going to be that easy - most places won't allow check in until 2pm or even later. I'm assuming that this is to discourage prozzies/couples having affairs etc. Admittedly, this trip is going to be about the first time the OH and I will have been let out on our own anywhere for a few years (barring a couple of hours here or there for a film or meal) so I can't say the reasoning for wanting to get a room is entirely innocent.
I'm guessing booking two nights and not turning up until the morning is also going to raise eyebrows.
Am I just going to have to give up on the idea?

I think the 2pm check-in is normal as check-out times are usually 10am. Therefore gives enough time for the room to be serviced...rather than concern about prostitutes.
Indeed... Although I'm reminded of when my ex worked in a brand-new hotel - their first ever customer turned up, checked in and half an hour later the GM went up to her room to deliver a bottle of bubbly and free stay vouchers for the next 10 years... He was greeted by the woman in her smalls, hand-cuffs on the bed etc. etc!
