Rather depends what you are into. Mikes place, just on the beach near the US embassy is wicked. great drinks and really good music. Allenby St on a Thursday and Friday night are fantastic. If you get a chance, drive up to Jerusalem. It is beautiful and only a couple of hours.
Yot VaTa restaurant which IIRC correctly is just near the Hilton, also on the beach, is well worth going to. All the dairy is fresh from their own Kibbutz (a dairy kibbutz in the middle of a desert is a very odd sight!).
Generally though, ask people there. It is a very vibrant and dynamic city and things change at a crazy pace. Not the prettiest city by any means but has a brilliant vibe, great food and lovely people and I can only assume they have a kibutz somewhere near that breeds gorgeous girls :-P Oh, and it is a long way from the war zone the press seem to think it is.

It's a fabulous city and country come to think of it, great party town as said above and not what you are perhaps lead to believe by the press we get here. I too have spent time over there having worked for an Israeli company for some time, but they always looked after us and gave us a great time. You must go to Jerusalem too, I am not religious in the slightest but the power of the place is incredible. For such a hot bed of world angst it is a fantastic place to visit and assuming you will be with people who know the place a great part town.

A stroll along the beach front at night is fantastic and extremely safe.

YepETA - About it being safe, very much so. Violent crime, rape and theft are I believe very low. My own guess is that this is partly as people there actually care about the country and while they may disagree strongly politically, there is a general respect for people and community. I also suspect it is because if one wishes to mug, assalt or generally do someone harm you should be rather careful as they have served in the IDF (Israeli Defence Force) and upsetting a paratrooper for example is a very, very silly thing to do! It is a warm and friendly place but most Israelis are hard as nails.
And while you are there pop down to Jaffa if you can, it is lovely and go get a shwarama. Your hosts will probably have a favourite place but pretty much anywhere is good.

I've got to say that I loved Tel Aviv when I went there on holiday. Great friendly people, lots of young attractive well dressed locals. It appeared extremely safe. We had no problems with airport security - we sailed through passport control even with some colourful passport stamps (including Syria).

It's hot, damn hot........and it's not Tel Aviv, it's Rehovot, a strange little clump of real estate 20 minutes out of Tel Aviv. I should have some time off on Thursday, barring disasters, to nip over to Jerusalem on the train.
