Things to do in Glasgow (family)
Discussion
Can anyone recommend anything to do in Glasgow?
We'll be staying in Glasgow on Saturday and Sunday night near the SECC. We have two boys, one almost 14, the other almost 16 - would the Science Centre be good for that age range? Not sure if that's aimed at younger kids.
We're planning on going to the Transport Museum as that's close to where we're staying. Hopefully take a bus tour and river cruise if there are any to be had.
Any other recommendations to stop the kids saying how bored they are every few minutes!? The "West End" on tripadvisor looks good - where exactly is that?

You could try Glasgow Science museum or a place called xscape in braehead for the kids and adults...you are also near imax cinema too which is worth a look. We'll be staying in Glasgow on Saturday and Sunday night near the SECC. West End is in West End of town surprisingly. Byres Road / Great Western Road. Kelvingrove park / art gallery and museum is popular with families.
Science Centre is great as is the Transport Museum.
Bus tour is also good, I don't think we have a river cruise. I'd recommend this:

The west end is great, I'd recommend http://number16.co.uk/ , fantastic quality food.

Head up to Glasgow Queen Street, get on a train and go to Edinburgh.
Top advice. Why doesn't he get a taxi to airport and go to Barbados?
Get yourself a bottle of this refreshment head up to George Square and shout at passers by

Thanks for that - think the imax is already sold out over the weekend with the Batman film. West End is in West End of town surprisingly. Byres Road / Great Western Road. Kelvingrove park / art gallery and museum is popular with families.

We have already looked at the sea plane, but it is hugely expensive, and obviously the weather's not guaranteed. Looks fantastic, though we don't have that sort of money spare (which is why we're going to Scotland!)Bus tour is also good, I don't think we have a river cruise. I'd recommend this:

We'll be going into Edinburgh on the way back. We're off down to Campbeltown for a few days after Glasgow, then staying in Falkirk (Edinburgh hotels too expensive!) We had this dilemma recently with family coming up to stay with us in Glasgow, with kids the same age group as your lot.
Science centre is pretty cool, along with the planetarium they have – you’re right that the IMAX is sold out, they also have an IMAX screen at Xscape braehead – might be worth thinking about depending on if you have one back home, granted it’s not as special as going to the science centre one but if you need to see a film in IMAX then it’s an option.
The Kelvingrove museum/art gallery went down well – they loved the spitfire hanging up.
For eating, the kids pretty much wanted to move into Ketchup http://www.ketchupwest.co.uk/ which is in Ashton Lane – this is a little cobbled lane hidden away halfway up Byers Road, great bars and very quaint, it also has a small cinema http://www.grosvenorcafe.co.uk/cinema.php?q=progra... where you can get a sofa with a blanket instead of seats if you want. Ketchup was the runaway dinner success of their trip for the kids, very tasty proper burgers with proper hung meat and you only need one serving of chips between two as they’re huge and chunky, get the milkshake served in the old glass milk bottles aswell!
A couple of other eating options by type and considering you're with kids;
Indian just off Byers Road - I’d recommend Balbirs (would have said Mother India before but Balbirs has started to edge it and has waaay better service aswell). http://www.balbirsrestaurants.co.uk/church_home.ht...
Italian on Byers Road – Tony Macaroni http://www.tonymacaroni.co.uk/byres-road.html this was also a big hit with the visitors as there’s plenty of stuff for the kids (the calzone of any pizza is huge and awesome) but also great quality pasta dishes for the grownups, a good family place to go.
Someone else posted No16, which is a very nice slightly formal place, always been good.
Spanish just off Byers Road – Café Andaluz http://www.cafeandaluz.com/ they generally have good offers on (check 5pm.co.uk) and with the tapas style of food the kids had loads of options (never realised how irrationally picky kids can be about what the eat!). If you leave there hungry you’ve done something wrong.
During the day – if you’re going up Byers Road during the day and fancy somewhere a little different for lunch/brunch then they’ve just opened a tea room at the Botanic Gardens which has gone down well with the mums and has a surprisingly good menu/afternoon tea kinda things. http://www.glasgowbotanicgardens.com/the-gardens/t...
Breakfast near Byers Road - http://www.tribecacafe.com/ Tribeca is run by students which means that all the waitresses are hot student types, this is enough reason to go however the food is also top notch – the full breaky and coffees have saved our lives (hangover hell) before and things like buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup and bacon are a nice break from the norm. It also normally has a massive NYPD cop car and yellow taxi sitting outside it which make a nice rumble if they move them while you’re there.
There’s shopping in town obviously. Loads of it. Soul destroyingly loads of it if you’re a bloke being dragged round. If you do end up in town then Forbidden Planet might be good for your kids and my stipulation to shopping in town is that I must be taken to http://www.mussel-inn.com/ for lunch, it’s only fair after bag carrying duties. Great lunch options.
