We are getting married at Lake Garda next August, and we are after some advice on where to go in our second week (honeymoon, with a 13 month old child).

The first week will be spent at Lake Garda, the second week was initially going to be a tour of northern Italy, however given we will have a 13month old (baby Emily) we have decided it’s best to find a base for the week and in true Pistonheads style just drive in and around the region.

The areas we may want to cover at the minute are:
Lucca
Vernazza
Florence
Verona
Other?

The main question is where to set up our base camp, we need to be able to drive to Verona airport for our return journey. As base for the second week, we have come up with:
Parma
Modena

Has anyone been to this area? Can you think of a better base area not too far from Parma or Modena? Or any nice hotels with good road links to help us get out and about in the day.

Any advice to make our second week as special as possible is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Lake Garda is stunning, especially up in the North of the lake. I live about a 1hr20 minutes East in a stunning Medieval town called Asolo which I would highly recommend. From there you can train to Venice, Vicenza, Padova, Bologna but there's much more to see than the big cities, especially with a baby in tow. This area gets overlooked due to the pull of Venice but it would be worth researching. Valdobiadone is close by (home of Prosecco), as is Bassano, Castelfranco, Montebelluna, Treviso, Feltre, Monte Grappa etc. The roads are stunning, it is very civilised and the quality/cost ratio is amazing.

www.asolo.it (Albergo Al Sole is a lovely hotel to stay in - the owners are great)

Stunning walks, food, wine, scenery and civilised.

Happy to help if you need it.
