Just had a text from some of my family who are on holiday in Turkey. They've just had all their money and cards stolen. I don't know the circumstances, but what is the safest and quickist way to get money to them on a sunday.

Thanks

I'd suggest western union is probably the quickest way?

In Turkey. I've never used Western Union and my only eperience with them is dealing with money scams. I assume they'll have to find their nearest office. Is tthere a code or something they need to obtain to identify the right location

Thanks. I'll go down that route. Apparently money was taken from the safe in the hotel room. Hotel are indifferent and holiday rep has said "it's my day off"

So much for five star service.

Not wanting to be an arse, but you are sure it is your relatives making this request.

There are scams where people have hijacked email accounts and/or stolen phones & feigned identity.

Yep, definitely you need to speak to them- Otherwise someone could have nicked their phone and could then nick any cash you send!

Does the text read like

"Good afternoon I am aunt yours we are holiday send money please blessings."

It's a scam.

This is an increasingly common scam, unfortunately.

Contact your family directly before sending anything.

Do they have travel insurance? The insurance company should sort this one.

Not a scam. Spoke to them on the phone. (and there was definitely no Nigerian accent)

They went out, came back and found the safe had been opened. All the money had gone but thankfully the passports were left. Hotel have just shrugged their shoulders. Shame because they've still got a week to go.

Have they contacted the local police?
They need to, they will then get a crime number from the Jendarma which they will use back in the UK for a claim.

Also from experience getting the Police involved my mean the Hotel does not "shrug its shoulders" espcially when its put on tripadvisor! They know the value of reputation and they will want to assist more if pressure is put on. (Assuming of course it is legit).

They've gone to get the Police report. It's definitely legit I can assure you. It's a real shame as they were having a grood time.
