they never fking shut up last night on an entire 4hr flight. Prattling on and on about every fking perfume, aftershave, stupid toy, bottle of booze, cigarettes. All chav brands I would avoid, and all described in simultaneously the most verbose and yet the most superficial manner, all wrapped up with 'funny' quips and 'humour'. Even with noise cancelling headphones, the was there pushing his st wares into my brain. fking lottery tickets for fks sake. What sort of idiot buys tickets to a corporate lottery on an aeroplane? None of the st for sale is even remotely cheap. Who buys this ste? Is it the credit card generation just buying tat because they are bored? If so why does it need to be broadcast constantly. I hate hate hate jet2 for it, they are the worst of all the airlines for this gash.

They all do it but the proceeds of the scratch cards tend to go to charity. It annoys me they sell tat (not seen much being sold TBH) when I would prefer another coffee trolley dash.

People also often pay in Euros to get rid of them without realuising what a rip-off exchange rate they charge.

Never been on Ryanair then? My favourite bit is the adverts on the luggage lockers for in-flight spirits in sachets.

Noise cancelling Bose headphones. Best £120 I ever spent.

Presumably it was a cheap flight? What did you expect? Champagne and canapés ?

Cheap airlines depend on selling stuff to keep the price down

If you don't like it - fly with a major airline ....

I don't think it's an unreasonable expectation to not be given 4 hours of hard sell over the PA system.

Thanks for your input. I don't give a flying fk (no pun intended) about how they fund their ticket prices. I've paid for my ticket - I don't want champagne or in fact anything - I want to be left alone. There are plently of pissheads who will buy this ste anyway, I don't see why they have to broadcast it constantly, almost like torture. Your username suggests you live in london and own a 911 - so did you just come to this thread to wave your wad of frequent flyer miles earned from BA to benidorm and back 3 times a year then?

Im guessing it increases their profits. As such they won't really care what ONE individual thinks. Best thing you can do is fly with somebody else. If enough people vote with their feet Jet2 might change their practises.

Personally I'd quite happily sit through 4 hours of a sales pitch if I'm saving enough money on the ticket. Effectively theyre paying you to listen.

ETA its a bit like going to McDonalds and complaining about the ambience hehe

It doesn't increase their profits - it is their profits. To them, getting you on the plane just an exercise in having you cooped up and forced to listen to their adverts for over-priced tat.

Fair enough - so a lesson learned by the OP?

actually it's more like going to macdonalds and whilst you are eating your burger someone is standing next to you, leaning down and right in your ear telling you about all the other stuff they sell... you know.... just in case you fancy any of it.

Having once been cabin crew,

I doubt that the crew like doing the "hard sell" but to get a wage they have to. The airline make staff do so then they can offer low prices and undercut.

People pay low prices and get what they pay for.
Most people opt for the cheapest fare means the legacy carriers pull off the route as there is no profit.

Hence. Put up with it or pay the full price.

Never had a problem with Jet2 myself. I've flown with them quite a few times as I live about 20 minutes drive from LBA and they fly to just about everywhere from there. Yes, they go through the 'selling crap to passengers' phase, but in my experience it only happens once per flight. The rest of the time they leave you alone.

Ryanair are bad enough for this - however last time I simply took some really good earplugs - couldn't hear a sausage smile

On the upside - and other short haul carriers could learn from this cos it is absolutely brilliant - on Ryanair flights they don't have a great wad of magazines and tat shoved in a pocket in the back of the seat, the safety instructions are printed on the back of the seat in front instead. This gives a vital inch or two of extra legroom - a godsend for me and the OH at 6'3" each. And the real winner: you can't recline the seats smile hurrah! so I don't end up with the selfish bd in front's seat five inches in front of my face. Love it!

I flew with Jet2 last week while holidaying in Crete. Over the 4 hour flight there was two announcements for duty free.

I actually thought it was quite a good service for a budget airline.

I quite like Jet2! They are one of the few airlines which fly from Scottish airports, and one of their policies seems to be no 'silly hour' arrivals or departures. I've found their announcements no better and no worse than any other budgtet airline I've used (but I've refused so far to fall as low as Ryanair - if there's an alternative I use it!!)

I suspect what it is, is that the crew are in some way rewarded for selling the tat. Some people are probably more keen to peddle it than others; but you would think they were rewarded per word spoken. They guy on my flight was fking ridiculous. They don't just list the brands, they seem to go about it in the most roundabout way e.g.:

"we have a lot of fabulous cigarettes on sale right now from the cabin crew who will be making their way through the cabin with the trolley at which you can purchase these cigarettes. We take most major credit cards such as visa, mastercard, diners club, access and other types of credit card. Available from the cabin crew using the trolley you can purchase marlboro cigarettes. These cigarettes are available in 200 packs, and in 300 packs, and also in larger packs such as 500 packs, and also 1000 packs. Also for sale from the cabin crew from the trolley are benson and hedges cigarettes. These cigarettes are available in 100 cigarette packs......" etc etc etc etc going over and over every fking minutae of detail using as many words as possible.

They do it on trains too!! Listing every fking thing over a period of a good few minutes. I can fking see AND I can fking read - get out of my ears.
