Looking at spending four nights in Rome in October with the OH but trying to find a decent hotel that isn't uber expensive but close to the main sites a right 'mare.

Can anyone suggest somewhere that's round about £100 a night that ticks all the boxes? Doesn't need to have spa/pool/gym etc but somewhere clean with a decent bed.

Would also be nice if there were some decent restaurants and bars close by.

Stayed in this place http://www.hotelnerva.com/ a couple of weeks ago for a couple of nights. Small but decent (and air conditioned) rooms, no restaurant but plenty nearby, literally next door to the Forum and 5 minutes from the Colosseum, great helpful and friendly staff - oh, and WiFi, all for well under 100 Euros, right in the heart of the city. I highly recommend it, and so does my wife!

Just stayed in the gambrinus hotel which is a 10 min walk from via veneto. Didn't pay for this one myself but assume it's sub 100 euros p/n. Small but perfectly functional and within walking distance of everything but the Vatican. Metro and bus stop on the door step if that's your thing.

Can recommend pepys bar in barberini square for cocktails and "white" next door for ice cream.

I'm not usually one for history but the forum and colosseum was one of the best experiences of my life
