Hello All,

I am organising a very cliched stag do in Amsterdam. We will be staying there from October the 19th (Friday) and leaving on the 21st (Sunday) does anyone know anywhere good to stay? I have a rather meagre budget of £600 for the entire group of 8 for both nights.

I appreciate this puts us in a hostel but was wondering if anyone knew of anything that I and Google don't.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

Did a football tour there a few years back, we stayed at the St. Christopher's at The Winston

It was actually very good

Can't really remember details but we left finding hotels until we got there...I think it was 300 euro for one room sleeping 3 adults for 2 nights.

All I remember was the stairs to the hotel were very steep.

I may well be in the minority here but I thought Amsterdam was very st.

Did this last year, and we organised a house boat for us all...pretty economical if remember rightly.
Amsterdam is not st though.
It's very pretty, the canals, the architecture, the very European way of life, the bikes...

Then there are the drugs...they help...
And the 'shop windows' they're fun too...
Watching how the crowds move about and how individuals pick their score, and then maybe pick another...or in one case get turned away as some poor old chap had soiled his chinos...

I wouldn't do another stag there, it's been done.
But I'd go back there as part of European tour...or city break...

I admit my comment about Amsterdam being st was a bit strong. I guess it depends on the reason for the trip.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I've been a couple of times before, only been a couple of us and never had to buget for other people though. I think Amsterdam is a very "understanding" city and one that will lend itself to a last weekend of freedom for my mate. Plus short flights is also a plus.

I am rather looking forward to the weekend.

The WInston Hotel is decent - I have stayed there a couple of times and it is very central. NEar the station, near the red light and pubs etc...

try here stayed here 2 years ago very modern large spacious rooms. think it was about a 20 min walk to the infamous windows, or about 5 by tram!

been 3 times now, echo the comment on house boat. personally never stayed in one but think it will be a good way to get into the amsterdam vibe, also echo the cost effective comment(stayed in an apartment which worked out cheap)

going to be blunt, are either you or other members of the group interested in smoking and the red lights?

I know it's a bit expensive but it would be nice to have a good un. Maybe I could buy a 205 GTi with the change??
Very nice but not that helpful! laugh

Went in March with the OH for four days. Loved it so much we went back in October. I'm not into drugs or hookers (though I found it very refreshing being somewhere where there are no taboos), but found plenty to do. Fantastically quirky buildings, loads of wonderful places to eat, great public transport, loads of culture and the Dutch people are a friendly bunch and all speak great English. I'd go and live there tomorrow if I could! Wouldn't want to try to do a two day break for eight people for £600 though. The OH and I paid about €125 per night to stay at Hotel V (both times) and spent about the same again per day eating and doing stuff.

I once stayed at the Hotel Prins Hendrik with a large group. Seemed cheap, cheerful and central.
