We went two years ago, stayed in a serviced apartment in the city. During the motogp they run special trains to a station only 10 minutes walk from track. Much better service that the one on offer to Catalynua (Barcelona).
From the circuit website;
"From Valencia Estación del Norte (The North Railway Station):
During the Grand Prix, the Circuit’s train halt on the suburban train (Renfe Cercanías) line C-3 is open, providing an excellent alternative for spectators travelling from Valencia to the Circuit thanks to the convenience of the service"
No need for a car at all, great underground service available, easy city to get around, lots to see. Take a few more days there, you will not regret it. It can be quite cold at that time of year though, be prepared. We absolutely froze on the Saturday qualifying!
