We are thinking about a holiday next year on a canal boat in the north yorks dales or there abouts that are dog friendly.

I suspect the only option for you is the Leeds/Liverpool canal which kind of brushes against the Dales, I suppose. I used to cycle the towpath between Shipley and Gargrave - it's a lovely waterway that has both industrial and rural backdrops and one or two really nice pubs (The Fishermans, at Dowley Gap springs to mind). There used to be a narrowboat rental company at Silsden (near Keighley) - don't know if it's still in operation - Google may assist.

We've done a couple in the past - although in the south-west (Kennet & Avon?).

Really enjoyable and slow-paced. Did get black-flagged once for speeding!

Dogs/smoking were not allowed there.

depends how long you are going for i suppose... i have had various short breaks in canal boats and whilst great fun, you better consider hiring close to where you want to end up!

I've been on a few narrow boat holidays and the dog was always taken, sometimes more than one. Maybe they've changed things about having dogs on board ?
