IMO though, anywhere between Sitges and south to Coma Ruga. Almost all Spanish holidaymakers, marina's everywhere and excellent beaches. No neon lights, no football shirts, no Irish pubs and no all day breakfasts. You can fly to Reus or Barcelona. Reus is a superb town in itself.
IIRC this hotel http://www.lemeridienra.es/en is favoured by the Spanish football set.

Peniscola is nice if you can get past the name!
For something even smaller and quieter, go and look at Denia and Javea, half way between Alicante and Denia.
Alicante itself is surprisingly peaceful, btw (or at least it was when I lived there in the 90s). People tend to write it off as it's the airport you fly to if you're going on holiday in Benidorm, but all the football hooligan knuckle-draggers go straight past the city on their transfer coaches.
Alternatively, if you like food and you don't want quite so much heat (or if you're in to surfing) then San Sebastian on the Atlantic coast is unbelievable for foodies.

Just did a 3K mile road trip round Spain, its great, you have the more monied north east to the poorer south, our favourites were the Costa Brava wich is just beautiful and Seville, liked it so much we stayed 3 nights there.
Spain surprised me, gorgeous scenery and the Spaniards we met were lovely. Prices were very reasonable too, compared to France as an example.
Sorry, didnt notice you mentioned beach holiday, still the above might help.

Theres plenty im sure but my vote is for Nerja, costa del Sol. Easy to get to from Malaga, great bars and decent restaurants, no rowdyness, no high rise, plenty spanish holday there.
Costa Del Sol is lovely, apart from the obvious places... Malaga itself has a beach and is some ways is a little like a mini Andalucian Barcelona - visited there this summer and mixed it up with a couple of nights in Ronda, which made for a fantastic week in the sun!Edited by Ultuous on Tuesday 16th October 19:51

Never been a fan of Costa del Sol and for me, the Costa Blanca is very commercial and very busy. The Javea/Denia peninsula is all very well and the beaches are not bad but to get anywhere means driving inland to the main arteries.
For me, the best commercial resort on Costa Blanca is Calpe which has a great beach and plenty to do and lots of facilities.
Further north is Playa Gandia which has an enormous beach but the waves can be fairly treacherous.
I can't recommend Peniscola enough - it's a way away from most airports but it's fantastic and the drive inland is equally spectacular with places like Morella.
Down south you have Mojacar which has nice beaches there and south of it rght down to Cabo de Gata national park. Vera has a nice beach but a lot of nudists, mostly unpleasant to look at.
Going round the SE corner of Spain, you have Roquetas de Mar west of Almeria. A pleasant enough resort with a huge beach but the minus point for me is that the sand here is coarse and quite dusty.
In the middle of the east coast you have Murcia which is quite undeveloped in places and there is a little resort called Calabardina which has a lovely beach but there's not much else there though you have all the coast road and Alquilas to the south of it.
Don't rule out Mallorca either as it has everything you need on one island. We tend to stay around Cala d@Or which has seven or more coves and it's our favourite in terms of scenery and beaches - better than the Spanish mainland and better than the sometimes dull Canaries.

I've never been to spain, ever. Not interested in the usual debauchery that spain is tarred with.
If someone wanted a beach holiday there, but without the drunken roudiness, where would one go.
Where do posh, decent PHers holiday in Spain?
Costa Calida, but avoid La Manga. If you are a golfer the area is excellent. Los Alcazares is just perfect in terms of beaches and things to do see, eat etc.If someone wanted a beach holiday there, but without the drunken roudiness, where would one go.

Close to Murcia and Cartagena and if you have kids close enough to benidorm if you nat the big parks etc.
If you want any further info on the area let me know moving there next summer.
Google Murcia city and Cartagena. Also have a look at the beaches of the area. Only 10 mins from the airport also and you can fly in to Alicante if prices are cheaper for you.

Or Fly to Girona, tends to be charters but once off the plane you don't have to mix with the hoi polloi
I live in Costa del Sol (actually in Gibraltar but it's the same place), and if you don't want to see Brits, avoid it. And Malaga sucks. As does Marbella and most of the Southern coastal towns and cities.
It's chock full of rowdy Brits but there are bits and pieces which are nice.
Granada. Beautiful place and very relaxing. It's also very expensive but worth it.
Sevilla is also stunning. Very hot in summer though.
If you want beaches, I'd recommend El Oasis:

Stunning place and very exotic. I have many friends who've been there and they all say the same.
Back to in-land. Cordova is very nice and I've heard the beaches of Chiclana are very nice too. There are also small picturesque places around the Costa which include Jimena, Gaucin, Casares and so forth.
There is stacks but the costa between Gib and Malaga is s
te.
