Likely to be flying to the USA soon. My previous visits have always been on Delta, only because they have always been the cheapest by some margin. I would describe their rather old 767s as 'functional'.
Checking the dates I want to go, the BA price is only £40 more and is a 777. Having never flown BA, would I notice any difference. I will point out , not being a company director , I can only afford cattle class smile

For an extra £ 40 I'd be going with BA. Triple 777 is a much nicer aircraft to fly on.

BA certainly more pleasant journey, but at a guess they both end up in Atlanta, right? In which case, after a couple of hours dicking around at Hartsfield you'll have forgotten about the flight and will be grateful for the extra £40 to spend on Valium.

I've never had a problem in Atlanta. Always got through quite quickly.

Do you want decent food, wine or beer without having to pay, an entertainment system with latest films, and cabin crew who don't try and put the fear of god into you, or 'pizza slice', beer at $6 served by someone older than your grandma, and entertainment consisting of a small tv in roof 20 feet away (if you're lucky).

I always regret flying anything other than BA...

I had a bad experience there. Spent 3 hours drinking lager with a German guy, then had to beg the steward to let me go to the khazi during an extended period of turbulence.

TBH I have flown with Delta numerous times to the US and I find them to be rather good.
Yes some of the fleet are in need for upgrade but otherwise they are professional, efficient and polite both ground and air staff.

I have yet to come across a flight or staff member that lends any evidence to some of the negative bias I hear about them

My first flight to the US was with Delta. 8 hours of misery with octogenarian cabin crew and st movies, followed by a 3 hour queue for immigration at ATL.

I've never used Delta, but doubt they can be much worse than BA.

Last time I flew to the US with BA, the entertainment system failed somewhere over Ireland.
It never worked at all on the way home, then I got stuck on the concourse in Heathrow with an ill child for hours because they didn't manage to through-ticket us and we were too early to check in for our Edinburgh flight.

Told them I'd never fly via Heathrow again, so they sent me duty-free vouchers - that I could only use if I flew via Heathrow!

Having recently flown to the states with BA I'd happily give someone else a try. 3/4 flights were late, leaving us with a mad dash through T5 which just isn't physically possible with all the security in place there. The aircon was off in the back of both 747s we travelled on, resulting in more sweat than I leaked in Death Valley. And between T5 and Manchester they lost my suitcase, it arrived home 26 hours after I did.

Indeed they do... I think they hired the older crew from TWA(T) some years ago!

+1 for NOT flyign with Delta here, nor Continental.
Flight code shres can be misleading - you don't get what you think you're paying for, as mentioned above: st food and drinks you must pay for.

I flew with Delta earlier this year. Their entertainment system crashed too and we spent hours watching the penguin flick on and off while they tried to reboot it.

biglaugh

Customer complaint handled by Basil Fawlty no doubt smile

My experience with BA was head and shoulders above that with Delta. In fairness the Delta crew were perfectly good but the food was awful, so bad that on the return flight I even picked the vegetarian option!

I'm amazed that this thread has made it to 15 posts.

There is an ocean of difference between flying any US carrier across the pond and BA. I'm no big fan of BA, I flew Star Alliance for years in my EMEA role just to avoid them - but when it comes to trans-Atlantic you can only consider BA or Virgin.

Just noticed the 777 takes 30 mins less than the 767. That swings it for me

To be fair, the time in the air is the same. It's just with Delta, they spend 30 minutes explaining how none of the booze is free and how to complain about the service.

Delta are bloody awful. I had the misfortune of having to endure a 5 hour flight with them last year going from Orlando to Las Vegas. Think Ryanair but with older flight attendants with a major attitude problem. 6 dollars to watch a movie on their In-flight Entertainment System??? mad Never again. We're looking at going to New York next April and although Delta are coming up as the cheapest, I will quite happily pay the extra £70 to fly with Virgin...

I use Virgin every time. The US carriers are just horrible. BA are good, I just prefer Virgin.
