Anyone done this? I've been a few times before, years ago, but we now have a nipper so wondering if it would still be a relaxing and worthwhile holiday?

You'll not have a relaxing holiday for many years hehe

3 months is a good age as they aren't mobile - but you will not be flavour of the month with all those couples on the plane!

It a real honeymoon destination, you'll feel trapped in your bungalow as soon as the little one goes to bed.

It's no shoes, no news. Purely a place to switch off.

Simple answer would be no. Much as I would love to head off to the Maldives again its off my list until such time as the kids can both swim strongly and enjoy the sea.

On a more serious note - if your child is ill here, you will take it to the doctor and then the hospital if there are problems.

If your child is ill with any complications in the Maldives, you're most likely going to end up in Sri Lanka...

Good points, cheers gents.

We live in Dubai so getting there is no biggie really. I've been to the 'no news' 'no shoes' resort before and loved it, but I'd be careful to avoid the honeymoon resorts. We just want relaxation, beautiful scenery and not too far away.

Echoing others here, I have been to the Maldives a few times, the last one being with an 8 month old, ie still not crawling. To be honest, it was not a good use of money. These holidays are not cheap, but the payoff is usually a luxurious, blisfully relaxing time.

Not with a baby. Essentially you are doing all the baby chores but in a hot, sweaty environment without any of the convenience you are used to. The activities you may want to do (diving etc) can't be done together (I doubt Mother will want to leave a 3 month old in a strange creche whilst you leave the island...).

I have vowed no more 'luxury' holidays until (as has been suggested already) they can swim/snorkel etc

Same here.

I've been to the Maldives & it was bliss - before we had kids though. I imagine it would get very tedious with a baby - especially with one that small.

I think it's an adults place to be honest - there just isn't enough to do for children of any age. There were a couple of 10-11 year olds with their parents when we went & they were the only kids on the island. I've never seen a couple of kids look so bored.

We took our son to a cottage in the Highlands when he was 3 months old. There ended up being that much crap to take, I hooked up the trailer. He did get poorly while we were away (or we were being over sensitive maybe) but taking him to a doctor was easy enough.

Plan B I think!
