Any ideas for a nice day out in the Midlands roughly halfway between London and Manchester?

Country house with a nice coffee shop type of thing, maybe a nice walk, maybe a castle, medieval village?

Brilliant! Thank you.
Are these places easy to get to by train?

I'm on trip adviser now.
Ever been to Baddesley Clinton?

Chatsworth is a git to get to by bus, their advice Chesterfield station, bus to Baslow, walk the rest of the way.

On a nice summer day it's a fine walk indeed, away from that best to go Sheffield station and then TM travel bus which drops you a bit closer. Only buses from Baslow to Chatsworth on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Thing is if you go by public transport you will miss the farm shop which is tucked away in Pilsley village without a lot of faffing about.

West Midlands Safari Park?
Seem to do Safari Bus Guided Tours but the downside is the rides are closed in winter but you get Santa.

Thanks for all the ideas fellas. I was hoping for a 1 hour journey from London, but the times to Chesterfield are mental, looks like I shall be looking further south.

Definitely recommend the Morgan factory. When I went a few years ago you could just wander round chatting to the staff. Even met Hammond from TG there.
