Rome in November - Recommendations?
Discussion
Hello to the PH collective.
Following a pretty normal 30th, I have decided to book a surprise trip to Italy for my wife's 40th in late November this year.
We both love Italy and whilst I have been to Emilia Romanga many times on business, she has only been to the Amalfi Coast for our honeymoon.
So, I am looking at a long weekend in Rome or another Italian city, preferably mid to southern Italy to keep the weather as good as it could be in late November...!
So first question, is Rome the best bet? (we live in Wales and so any trip needs to be within direct flight of Bristol, LHR / LGW or Birmingham and most budget airlines end in October). I am not averse to package deals either but these seem to be significant in quantity and lacking in detail....
Second question which is linked to the first, does anyone have hotel recommendations with circa 30mins walk of the city centre (I don't want a hire car to get in the way of eating and drinking). Whilst I am willing to pay for a reasonable hotel, given the lack of time to be spent in it I don't want to spend more than €150/night.
Apologies for the rambling post but too many thoughts...
Over to you, thanks in advance!

Rome is a great city, you will love it. Me and the OH have been 3 or 4 times in the last five years - lovely place, nice people and very easy to get around on foot as it is quite a compact city.
Don't tell everyone but we normally stay in the Hotel do Monti - cracking location and pretty much unbeatable for the price.
ETA: Didn't realise it was rated that highly on Tripadvisor!!

Rome is a great city to qander around....never felt uneasy evendown backstreets. Been twice with my wife...first time was for her 50th. Loads of hotels but quality varies...best check tripadvisor.
We found it best to go Mon-Fri as it becomes VERY crowded at weekends. Most attractions are within walking distance of each other. Public transport is good and cheapish.
