As the title says, I'm considering taking the family to the south of france this coming summer on a ten day camping trip. We have all the gear so just need a decent location which is good from kids (8,10,12 years old) ideally near a beach. Havent been that way before and would consider some advice.

Is the drive down good?? Where is a decent stop over piont???

Please feel free to through in some ideas. Many thanks

The South is such a vast area, on the atlantic coast near Aarchon is nice, but equally the eastern side from Perpignan is good too, the Riverira might be too busy.

Stop overs are plenty too depends on how much you want to drive in a day and which way you cross the channel and at what time are you thinking of a quick blast using the Autoroute or RNs?

Oh and lets not forget your budget, plently of etap ibis lodges to pick from in the budget market for a stop over

If you come in August it will be stupid busy and the drive down rather fraught with traffic.
A good halfway stop over would be somewhere like Beaune.
Try and avoid major destinations like Antibes, Nice, St Trop etc.
Any preferences for which part of the coast?

Have a google at places like Le Lavandou, Le Ciotat, La Grande Motte, Valras Plage, Argeles sur mer etc

The atlantic coast beaches are fantastic but beware the sea, as its dangerous. There will be warning flags up and areas clearly marked where you can swim.
We often stay at a Eurosol campsite, Saint Girons Plage 40560. www.camping-eurosol.com
Its a large site 200metres from the sea. Restaurant, bar, shop, entertainment, bike hire and much more sporty stuff. It has about 3 or4 pools to suit all ages. There are bigger shops in a local town 5 mins away.
Its also a good base for going out on day or half day trips.
There are cabins and mobile homes also.
August is very busy so book early.

If you land in Calais about nine in the morning you can make Poitiers about 5 in the afternoon. You are spoilt for choice for hotels and Futuroscope has hotels also just off the autoroute. You would then make an easy 5 hour journey down the next day.

Years ago my wife and I went to Agay for 10 days.

Also did a few days along the coast and visited Monaco, St Tropez, etc..

There are quite a few campsites in Agay, one right on the beach. Ours was inland but within walking distance of the beach or short drive to another beach just up the coast. It didn't seem too crowded but we did go in the first week of september.

This is the campsite we stayed at but we didn't book just turned up.

You'll do well to get five in one room in your stop-over hotel. You might have to get two rooms . . .

Out of interest, does anyone know when the French tend to take their holidays? Their school holidays seems to run from the beginning of July to the beginning of September.
