Hi all,

I'm due to fly to St Maarten at the end of March for a spot of sailing in St Barts..

I bought economy flights with Air France last year.

I've just called them to see if I could purchase an upgrade to premium economy or business class and was told that my tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable and therefore I can't change them for better seats.

I asked if I'd be able to do it on check-in and the Air France lady wasn't able to confirm this.

Anyone managed to do this?

You can usually only upgrade from a full-price flexible ticket.

Ah well - I'll see what I can do just before the flight.

Kicking myself really, should have taken a rare chance to travel without the kids in the comfy seats - just like old times (although the upgrades were generally free thanks to BA Captain pal).

To be honest just not having the kids a long will feel like an upgrade; coming back from Antigua after Christmas last year with three under 7 including a 4 month old was hard work.

Upgrade at check in shouldn't be an issue at all. If they have a seperate desk for the business class travellers go straight there, you'll be better recieved than the lass trying to herd all the cheap seats through.

Funnily the last flight i tried to upgrade they would only sell at full price less the cost of my ticket. Once on the plane not a single seat at the front of the plane was in use, unless the business class hostesses wanted to relax.

Upgrades are normally possible, but at a price.
I was able to upgrade economy tickets on Swiss to business class from Chicago to Zurich, IF I paid CHF2,400 EACH extra.
I passed on their kind offer. wink
