Me and the Mrs are off to Newcastle this weekend just for one night.

We havent got anything planned so I think the plans are just to walk around. Problem is my Mrs is pregnant and the forcast does look grim so any pointers to some interesting attractions would be great.

Newcastle (like most citys) seems to have a good collections of museums so any reccomendations would be good. Also if there are any quirky bars/cafes which arnt too busy in the daytime (so I can refuel while she has a sit down smile ) would be cool too.

Weather forecast is looking a bit more promising now!

Newcastle's a nice city to walk around - surprisingly compact. Shopping & restaurants are great. We particularly like the new Kingdom buffet restaurant at Haymarket Metro Station - great food & fantastic value. Attraction-wise There's the Science Museum, The Centre For Life, The Hancock Museum, Laing Art Gallery, The Sage, and The Baltic Flour Mill.

The area's best asset for me, though, is it's coastline - particularly from Druridge Bay northwards. I'd be looking at a nice walk around Warkworth, Alnmouth, Bamburgh, Holy Island etc, maybe with lunch somewhere like the Ship Inn at Low Newton by The Sea wink

depending on how far along she is , if she doesnt want to walk too far you may want to stay on the quay side, plenty of restaurants and bars and the Baltic just over the bridge.

Newcastle boy here, you may want to post in the North East Section.

Quayside area is generally picturesque for photos etc, fairly compact, so would only kill an hour or two. Discovery museum is a 20 minute walk away and by far the best in the area. Baltic is and always has been cr@p, nice building, but content has never been that good. Pitcher and Piano on the quayside is pretty decent for food too. Only thing to point out is reaching the quayside from the city centre is fairly hilly, so may not be suitable for your missus.

Also the newly refurbished city library is massive and interesting for local knowledge etc if you're into that kind of thing.

If you can be a bit more specific about interests, hobbies, preferences for food etc, transport method, I can try and help further.

I was in The Forth, next to central station, which has just been refurbished and that was nice with a range of beers and ales to suit, the food looked nice as well.
